The invention relates to an improved process for preparing [(1R), 2S]-2-aminopropionic acid 2-[4-(4-fluoro-2-methyl-1H-indol-5-yloxy)-5-methylpyrrolo[2,1-f][1,2,4]triazin-6-yloxy]-1-methylethyl ester of the formula:  Compound I has been shown to be useful for the treatment of certain types of cancer.

The present invention provides a solventless process for the catalytic hydrogenation of esters of 4,4,4-trihaloacetoacetic acid using a platinum catalyst in the presence of an acid or base co-catalyst to provide the analagous 3-hydroxybutyrate ester. Such 3-hydroxybutyrate esters are useful as solvents, cleaners or fine chemical intermediates.

The present invention provides a process for preparing esters or thioesters of trifluoroacetic acid from trifluoroacetyl chloride and an alcohol or a thiol with the ester or thioester being present as the solvent.
