A method includes a first step of monitoring a noise floor. A next step includes determining if the noise floor crosses a threshold level. A next step includes preventing any further increases in a Common Pilot Channel power level. A next step includes randomly selecting and performing an interference mitigation measure. A next step includes monitoring an interference level. A next step allows further increases in a Common Pilot Channel power level if the interference abates by more than a predetermined amount.

Optimizing power settings in a communication system to mitigate interference

In a CDMA network, each mobile is arranged to combined pilot symbols from its dedicated pilot channel with pilot symbols from at least one common channel as an input to its channel impulse response sensing means. The common channel may be a BCH, a FACH or a PCH, and the pilot symbols on all such channels may be combined. The pilot energy required on each dedicated pilot channel can thereby be reduced. By communicating the quality of the received pilot symbols to a base station, the base station can reduce the energy on the dedicated pilot channel, providing a yet further saving of energy.

Disclosed is a method related to the controlling of quality of services of a CDMA-based-System. It is provides an improved control mechanism for the quality of services in a CDMA-System, in particular by providing a controlling means apt to assign the target signal to interference ratio, the static rate matching factor and the power-offset dynamically, especially adapted to be used for UMTS-Systems. Proposed is a dynamic quality control for adjusting quality of services of a CDMA-based System transmitting a plurality of different services between the system and a user equipment by using at least one data channel (DPDCH) with the services multiplexed and rate matching technique applied and an associated control channel (DPCCH) wherein parameters representing transmitting properties concerning the quality of service, advantageously representing a signal to interference ratio (SIR) for the control channel (DPCCH), a static rate matching factor (SRF) for each service and a power-offset (G) between the control channel (DPCCH) and the data channel (DPDCH) are derived for each service to achieve desired quality of services, during an installation process based on default quality () requirements and during an operating condition dynamically in dependence of quality estimates () performed on each of that services during data transmission.

Method of controlling quality of service of CDMA system using dynamic adjustment of parameters representing transmitting properties concerning quality of service

A method of detecting the format of received information by detecting the format of a guiding channel of a communication system. With the use of a lookup table or other mapping technique, the detected guiding channel format is used to determine the format of the other channels of the communication system. Therefore, the format of received information can be determined without the use of TFCI information.

The values of E /N are stored in a look up table in the BTS and each mobile; the BSC generates values of semi static rate matching factors and spreading factors for each service and transmits them to the BTS and mobiles so that the mobile can calculate from the received values and the values stored in the look up table the number of bits to be punctured or repeated.

A time division multiple access communication system is disclosed, in which down link data are transmitted over a data channel in repeated time frames each containing a plurality of time slots. Down link set up information is transmitted over a control channel to indicate from which time slot a user terminal should extract data. Each frame on the data channel includes a user packet flag to indicate whether or not each time slot in the frame contains data. Each user terminal is responsive to the set up information and to the user packet flags to extract data from its assigned time slot in those frames which the slot is indicated to contain data.
