A fluid flow control device includes a valve body, a bonnet, a control assembly, an internal recess, and a seal assembly. The valve body defines an inlet portion, an outlet portion, a bonnet opening, and a fluid flow path extending between the inlet portion and the outlet portion. The bonnet is disposed in the bonnet opening. The control assembly is at least partly supported by the bonnet, and includes a ball element disposed within the valve body and rotatable between an open position and a closed position. The internal recess is defined by the valve body downstream from the inlet portion and adjacent the bonnet opening. The seal assembly is disposed within the internal recess and includes a movable sleeve seal, a retaining device, a biasing element, and one or more sealing elements for preventing leakage between the sleeve seal and the retaining device and/or the valve body.

Methods and apparatus to load a valve packing are described. An example method disclosed herein includes adjusting a packing flange nut to a position corresponding at least approximately to a free condition of a biasing assembly, coupling a first gauge member to a first flange, adjusting a first gap between a first surface of the first gauge member and a reference surface opposite the first flange to a first predetermined distance, and tightening the packing flange nut so that the first surface of the first gauge member substantially aligns with or engages the reference surface and causes a load assembly to provide a first predetermined packing stress to the valve packing when the first gauge member substantially aligns with or engages the reference surface.

Methods and apparatus to load a valve packing

A fluid flow control device includes a valve body, a bonnet, a control assembly, and a seal assembly. The valve body defines an inlet portion, an outlet portion, a bonnet opening, and a fluid flow path extending between the inlet portion and the outlet portion. The bonnet is disposed in the bonnet opening. The control assembly is at least partly supported by the bonnet, and includes a ball element disposed within the valve body and rotatable between an open position and a closed position. The valve body defines an internal recess at a location downstream from the inlet portion and adjacent the bonnet opening. The seal assembly is disposed within the internal recess and includes a movable sleeve seal, a retaining device, and one or more sealing elements for preventing leakage between the sleeve seal and the retaining device and/or the valve body.

Methods and apparatus to load a valve packing are described. An example apparatus to load a valve packing includes a load assembly having a biasing element disposed between a valve packing flange and a stop flange to provide a load to a seal assembly. The packing flange is adjustable relative to the stop flange to adjust the load to be applied to the seal. A first guide member coupled to the packing flange or the stop flange provides a first predetermined distance between the packing flange and the stop flange. The first guide member provides an indication of a first predetermined load to be provided by the load assembly when the packing flange and the stop flange are spaced at the first predetermined distance provided by the first guide member.

A fluid control valve for use in severe erosive fluid conditions which includes a ceramic plug seat. The ceramic plug seat is mounted to a metal valve element using a tapered mechanical bolt. The tapered portion of the mechanical bolt matches a cone-shaped interior surface portion within the ceramic plug to uniformly distribute the mounting forces within the ceramic plug to prevent cracking of the ceramic plug.

A control element for a fluid valve includes a main body having a rounded outer surface on a first side, an inner base surface and first and second opposed inner side surfaces adjacent the inner base surface on a second side. First and second ears are joined to the main body at spaced locations and extend away from the main body on the second side thereof. The ears include opposed inner surfaces adjacent the inner side surfaces of the main body. The inner surfaces together form opposed passage surfaces which diverge from one another at first and second ends to improve flow efficiency.

This disclosure relates to apparatus for use with a mechanism having at least one preselected position and for indicating whether the mechanism is at this position. The apparatus comprises a lever having an axis of rotation and which is rotatable on the axis. A cam is fastened to the lever and is rotatable with the lever, the lever and the cam being operably connected to the mechanism and to be rotated to a first angular location when the mechanism is at the preselected position. A sensor is mounted adjacent the lever and is responsive to the position of the cam.
