The present disclosure describes systems and methods for setting and sealing a plug in a casing within a downhole bore. This includes deploying into the casing a plug assembly comprising a tubular metal seal and deploying into the casing a setting tool. The tubular metal seal can be expanded radially to a first radial diameter with the setting tool by moving the setting tool longitudinally such that a tapered exterior portion of the first end of the setting tool engages a tapered interior portion of the first end of the tubular metal seal. The setting tool can then be removed from the casing. The method may comprise expanding the tubular metal seal radially to a second radial diameter by pumping fluid into the plug assembly such that the exterior of the tubular metal seal engages an interior of the casing.

A downhole tool comprising magnesium is placed in a well bore in a subterranean formation for performance of a downhole operation. After performance of the downhole operation, rather than mechanically retrieving or removing the tool, at least a portion of the magnesium in the downhole tool is dissolved by contacting the downhole tool with an aqueous ammonium chloride solution.

The present disclosure describes systems and methods for flow-activated plug assembly flow seat initiation, which in some aspects may comprise sealing a plug within a downhole bore, and may include a plug assembly comprising a frustoconical tube; a tubular mandrel positioned longitudinally through the frustoconical tube and having port(s) fluidly connecting a mandrel bore with the bore of the frustoconical tube, and having a shear ring extending from the mandrel; and a ball configured to fluidly seal the proximal end of the tubular mandrel; wherein the tubular mandrel is configured to move between a first position having a fluid passageway through the ports and a second position wherein the shear ring has been sheared away when a predetermined fluid pressure is applied to the plug assembly and the tubular mandrel is positioned relative to the frustoconical tube such that the port(s) are blocked, closing the fluid passageway.

A downhole tool having a body or structural component comprises a material that is at least partially consumed when exposed to heat and a source of oxygen. The material may comprise a metal, such as magnesium, which is converted to magnesium oxide when exposed to heat and a source of oxygen. The downhole tool may further comprise a torch with a fuel load that produces the heat and source of oxygen when burned. The fuel load may comprise a flammable, non-explosive solid, such as thermite.

A method for removing a downhole tool from a well bore comprises consuming at least a portion of the downhole tool within the well bore via exposure of the tool to heat and a source of oxygen. Another method of removing a downhole tool from a well bore comprises exposing the downhole tool to heat and a source of oxygen in situ within the well bore to desirably consume at least a portion of the tool within the well bore.

System and method for servicing a wellbore

A disposable downhole tool or a component thereof comprises an effective amount of biodegradable material such that the tool or the component thereof desirably decomposes when exposed to a wellbore environment. In an embodiment, the biodegradable material comprises a degradable polymer. The biodegradable material may further comprise a hydrated organic or inorganic solid compound. The biodegradable material may also be selected to achieve a desired decomposition rate when the tool is exposed to the wellbore environment. In an embodiment, the disposable downhole tool further comprises an enclosure for storing a chemical solution that catalyzes decomposition. The tool may also comprise an activation mechanism for releasing the chemical solution from the enclosure. In various embodiments, the disposable downhole tool is a frac plug, a bridge plug, or a packer.

Biodegradable downhole tools

A tool and a method for sealing a casing or a wellbore according to which a device is supported on a mandrel and expands into engagement with the casing or the wellbore. An explosive cutter is also supported on the mandrel and is adapted to explode to cut the mandrel and the device and release the engagement.
