A stator coil includes a plurality of copper strands and a layer of high thermal conductivity polymer disposed adjacent at least one of the copper strands. The high thermal conductivity polymer includes a host polymer and a high thermal conductivity filler. The high thermal conductivity polymer improves heat transfer from the plurality copper strands.

In one embodiment the present invention is a Flexible Connector Assemblies (FCA)that comprises top and bottom plates connected by Flexible Connectors (FC)and provides a compliant electrical joint between the first terminal leadand the second terminal lead. These terminal leadsandare connected to the top and bottom plates eccentrically in such a way that the total currentthrough the FCA is more evenly distributed among the FCthan when the leads are centered on their respective plates. This improvement in uniformity reduces the maximum current carried by any one FC, which substantially extends the operating life of the component.

An assembly for mechanically clamping a laminated steel stator core including laminated steel core-end magnetic flux shunts in a dynamoelectric machine is provided. The flux shunt at each end of the stator core includes first and second surfaces for receiving the clamping assembly. The first and second surfaces may be arranged to define a step. The clamping assembly includes an inner support ring configured to engage an entire 360&#xb0; circumference of the first receiving surface of the flux shunt. The clamping assembly further includes an outer support ring configured to engage an entire 360&#xb0; circumference of the second receiving surface of the flux shunt. The respective mechanical engagement provided by the inner and outer rings relative to the flux shunt is circumferentially continuous.

Power generation system interchangeability device and related methods

A support system for an electric generator having a spring bar connected between the stator frame and a vertical spring plate mounted on a foundation. The spring bar provides flexibility in the tangential direction to minimize the magnitude of torque loads transmitted to the foundation during short circuit operating conditions. The spring plate provides flexibility in the radial direction to minimize the magnitude of vibration loads transmitted to the foundation during normal operating conditions. The combination of a spring bar with a spring plate allows the support system designer to optimize the natural frequency of the support system in both the tangential and radial directions.

Spring mounting for an electric generator

An improved rotor end winding assembly for an electrodynamic apparatus includes a stack of conductive straps that are configured to turn about an end turn portion of a rotor and include a top strap, a bottom strap and a number of intermediate straps that are stacked between the top strap and the bottom strap. A space defined between the rotor shaft and the bottom strap is divided into a high pressure zone and a low pressure zone by a zone block. A stepped coolant passage defined in the stack includes an ascending passage that leads from the high pressure zone toward the top strap and in the direction of the zone block and low pressure zone, and a descending passage that leads from the ascending passage to the low pressure zone. As a result, coolant will flow from the high pressure zone to said low pressure zone to efficiently cool said stack of straps.

Rotor end turn ventilation structure

A method of cooling an electrodynamic machine having an inner-cooled stator winding consisting of a stator coil surrounding a cooling tube, including the steps of locating a hot-spot along a length of the stator coil through which the cooling tube runs, deforming the cooling tube at a tube location generally adjacent the hot-spot so as to increase the flow resistance of the cooling tube, and flowing a cooling medium through the cooling tube during operation of the electrodynamic machine to effect a heat transfer between the stator coil and the cooling medium.

A method of designing and manufacturing an electrical generator which has a specific target power output rating includes the steps of selecting one of a predetermined, standardized set of diameters for the rotor, stator and frame of the generator; and subsequently selecting the length of the generator stator core and one of several standardized number of stator coil slots based on the target power rating and voltage of the generator. The invention permits standardized generator components which are specific to the selected set of diameters to be used during assembly of the generator, instead of customized components, which results in reduced design and manufacturing costs per generator.

Method of manufacturing a modular electrical generator

Apparatus for aligning the endplates with the core of an electrical generator. To accommodate for relative thermal expansion and contraction between the endplates, having differing coefficients of thermal expansion due to being made of a different material than the core and fingerplates, an endplate variable alignment pin is provided for associating the endplates with the remainder of the core structure. The endplate is able to radial expand or contract in relation to the fingerplate plates in a controlled manner. An eccentric pin is provided to compensate for misalignment between the endplate and the fingerplates at each end of the stator core structure. Radial guide blocks are secured to the fingerplates prior to stacking and bolting of the core, to eliminate the need for in situ welding in constricted areas after core construction.

Dynamo-electric machine stator core construction

A system for cooling hydrogen which is used for cooling an electric power generator, cooling of the hydrogen being effected by transfer of heat from hydrogen leaving the generator to cooling water extracted from a source which has a temperature determined by external conditions. The system is composed of an indirect heat exchanger for bringing cooling water into heat exchange communication with hydrogen leaving the generator and cooling water is supplied to the heat exchanger partially from the source and partially from cooling water leaving the heat exchanger. A temperature monitoring unit produces an indication of the temperature of the cooling water extracted from the source and a control unit is coupled to the temperature monitoring unit to cool the hydrogen to a desired temperature while maintaining a constant flow rate of cooling water into the heat exchanger.

A method and apparatus are provided for detecting rotor faults in large dynamoelectric machines, such as turbine generators. Faults in the rotor windings of such machines may occur as shorted turns or as ground faults, and in either case even harmonics are produced in the field flux waveform in the air gap of the machine. The occurrence of such faults, therefore, can be detected by monitoring the flux waveform in the air gap to detect the presence of even harmonics. This may be done by means of a search coil or coils properly disposed in the air gap of the machine.
