An adjustable tension and adjustable compression splint for one or more joints on a finger or a toe formed of a strip of elastic, stretchy material which is cooperatively joined with a narrow pocket containing a dynamic extension strut or stay or a static malleable position strut or stay.

Adjustable tension finger or toe splint

A hygiene splint for supporting the wrist and forearm and holding the fingers in an extended position, including a hand grip extending transversely-across the palm, a hand and wrist support adapted to contact the ulnar and ventral side of the hand, a forearm support having a generally triangular configuration for contact with the underside of the forearm. A soft moisture absorbent strap encloses the hand grip and is wrapped several times around the hand and forearm prior to securement. Foam slip-on tubes of increasing diameter can be slipped over the hand grip to gradually open contracted fingers.

Hygiene splint

A hand splint which leaves the volar wrist free and which can be used alone or as a foundation splint for the attachment of various permanent and removable hand and finger corrective devices. The splint includes a manually bendable support medium having a substantially C-shape including a palmar piece which fits into the palmar arch of the hand, a proximal dorsal forearm piece adapted to contact the dorsal wrist and at least a portion of the dorsal forearm, and a dorsal hand piece extending between the palmar piece and the proximal dorsal forearm piece. Adjustable tension means is provided on the dorsal side of the wrist. Detachable thumb, finger and metacarpophalangeal support as well as an interphalangeal assist are provided separately and in combination. A novel hinge and adjustable strap attachment means are also provided.

A hand splint is provided which is designed to support the metacarpophalangeal joints and resist ulnar drift of the proximal phalanges, while at the same time avoiding restriction of normal hand use. The splint has a bendable support frame of a generally oblong shape which is adapted to fit the palmar arch of the hand. Four generally rounded finger separators are attached to the frame to separate each of the fingers and provide lateral resistance to ulnar drift thereof. Preferably the support frame and finger separators are formed of wire. The entire splint is enclosed in a pliant foamed cushioning material which according to one embodiment can be further covered with an abrasion resistant, flexible outer sheeting material to resist wear. Straps or other fastening means are used to secure the splint against the hand. A process for making the splint is also provided.

Ulnar deviation splint

A spring metacarpophalangeal flexion splint designed for dynamically flexing the metacarpophalangeal joints without restricting normal hand use includes: a proximal phalangeal piece which is adapted to contact and cover the proximal phalanges of the hand and is formed of a resilient metal strip which is substantially covered with a pliant cushioning material; a palm piece adapted to fit into the palmar arch and crease of the hand and is made up of a rigid tube covered with a pliant cushioning material; and a pair of spaced apart generally parallel spring wires. The spring wires are disposed laterally with respect to the hand and connect the proximal phalangeal piece with the palm piece. A loop extension of the spring wires from the palm piece provides a means of attachment for a dorsal strap which is extended between the wires to permit the increase and decrease of tension on the proximal phalangeal splint upon the respective tightening and loosening of the strap.

Spring metacarpophalangeal flexion splint (knuckle splint)

An adjustable finger splint made entirely of a single piece of spring steel wire which is bent into a configuration which includes a central arcuate section adapted to cup a portion of the circumferential curve of one of the dorsal and ventral surfaces of a finger or thumb. A pair of substantially arcuate arms extend in opposite directions from the ends of the central section in a lengthwise manner generally following the anatomical conformation of a finger which is to be splinted. A pair of arcuate support pieces in a somewhat rectangular shape are formed from the terminal ends of the arms. These support pieces are designed to cup the part of the finger into which they are in contact. The splint is worn with the terminal arm support pieces either under the finger for extension of the finger, or the terminal arm support pieces can be worn on the top of the finger for flexion of the finger. Heat sealed foam pads cover the central arcuate section and the terminal arm support pieces for comfort. Exposed parts of the spring steel are encased in a teflon sleeve. The spring steel wire of which the finger splint is constructed permits individualized fit through bending, as well as motion of the finger to be splinted. All of the fingers of the hand, including the thumb, can be splinted using the finger splint of the invention.

Finger splint

A lightweight, manually formable splint constructed of an underlying framework of aluminum wire alone or in conjunction with aluminum sheet, which is enclosed in polyethylene foam. The splint is especially designed for use in splinting hands.
