Medical devices are described and illustrated herein. In particular, steerable guide members and catheters useful in the identification and treatment of bodily passages are provided. Methods of identifying and treating bodily passages are also provided.

Steerable guide member and catheter

A variable stiffness catheter having two concentric coils. A first coil is fixed with relation to the body of the catheter and a second coil is able to rotate in the space between adjacent turns of the first coil. The second coil translates axially in response to being rotated. When the second coil is advanced to its distal position, the stiffness is maximized. When the second coil is retracted proximally, the stiffness of the coil is reduced.

Variable stiffness catheter

An embolic coil delivery system includes a flexible elongate body having a distal segment. An embolic coil is loaded on the flexible elongate body at the distal segment and contacts an outer surface of the flexible elongate body. The embolic coil delivery system also includes a delivery catheter sized to advance over the flexible elongate body during an embolic coil delivery procedure, wherein a distal segment of the delivery catheter contacts the embolic coil during the embolic coil delivery procedure.

In a method for making a wire guide, a fluoropolymer coating is removed from a distal section of an FP coated core wire to expose a metallic portion. A polymer coating is applied to a proximal section of the FP coated core wire such that the polymer coating overlays at least a portion of the FP coating, and to the distal section of the FP coated core wire including the exposed metal portion. The polymer coating is removed from the FP coating to form the wire guide having a proximal portion with the FP coating and a distal portion with the polymer coating. A hydrophilic coating may be applied to the distal portion over the polymer coating.

Method of making a coated wire guide

A medical device package includes an elongate tubular holder having a first and a second detachable tip, and a medical device positioned within a cavity and contained within the holder via the first and second detachable tips. The medical device has a self-shaping bias and is loaded in opposition to the bias via contact with an inner surface of the holder defining the cavity. The first and second detachable tips may include snap-off tips, such that upon detachment the cavity is opened for removing the medical device. Related methodology is disclosed.

Medical device package and methods

A stent is described and comprises an elongate strut having a first end and a second end, an aperture formed in the strut, and a barb having a base and a distal anchor. The barb base is attached to the strut and the barb extends distally from the base through the aperture. Other devices, systems, and methods are described.

Stent and barb

A tissue sampling device includes a cannula having an elongate tubular body with a sharpened coring tip. A shaft extends within the cannula and is coupled with a cutter having an axially advancing wire extending between a distal end of the shaft and the sharpened coring tip. The axially advancing wire is movable in a cutting path defining an arc about the longitudinal axis, by way of rotating the shaft relative to the cannula.

Tissue sampling device and method

A system and method for monitoring the placement of a feeding tube in the jejunum of a patient includes a system comprising a feeding tube and a tubular member received in a passageway extending through the feeding tube. The tubular member is sized relative to the feeding tube such that an echogenic distal length of the tubular member extends distal to the open distal end of the feeding tube. The distal end of the assembly is advanced into the small intestine of the patient, and a negative pressure is drawn through an opening in the distal length of the tubular member to draw the tubular member distal length into juxtaposition with a wall of the small intestine. The position of the assembly in the small intestine may be observed in real time via ultrasound visualization of the echogenic portion.
