In one example, an elevator for a roll of print media includes rotatable shafts oriented parallel to one another and translatable supports to support a roll of print media. Each support is operatively connected to the shafts such that rotating the shafts in a first direction raises the supports and rotating the shafts in a second direction opposite the first direction lowers the supports.

Supporting a roll of print media

A fluid ejection device includes a fluid-ejection mechanism, a scanning carriage, and a service station. The fluid-ejection mechanism is capable of ejecting fluid onto media. The scanning carriage is that on which the fluid-ejection mechanism moves while ejecting fluid onto the media. The service station is that to which the fluid-ejection mechanism is movable by the scanning carriage, and that at which fluid aerosol from the fluid-ejection mechanism is extracted by a vacuum via an airflow path from the fluid-ejection mechanism temporarily fluidically coupled to the vacuum during servicing of the fluid-ejection mechanism.

Fluid aerosol extraction for service station of fluid ejection-device

An aerosol extraction system for a fluid-ejection device is disclosed that includes a print zone, a servicing zone, a vacuum, and a switching mechanism. The print zone is that in which a print head of the fluid-ejection device ejects fluid onto media to form images thereon. The servicing zone is that in which the print head is serviced. The vacuum is fluidically connectable to both the print zone and the servicing zone. The switching mechanism is to fluidically connect and disconnect at least one of the print zone and the servicing zone to the vacuum.

Aerosol extraction during printing by and servicing of fluid ejection-device

A hardcopy device such as an ink-jet printer comprises a printhead, a spittoon for receiving waste ink from the printheads, and a heater for quickly drying the ink waste products in the spittoon. A drum platen having a print media supporting area also has an elongate spittoon region extending across its circumferential surface, the contents of the spittoon region being arranged to be removed intermittently by an elongate scraper which, in one position of the drum, can be moved radially towards the drum to contact the spittoon region.

Removing ink waste

In one implementation, an aerosol collector for an inkjet printer includes a partial enclosure defining a central cavity. An air passage is defined within a wall forming the partial enclosure to allow air movement into an opening defined on an inside surface of the partial enclosure and out of an exhaust outlet. A fan is configured to remove a mixture of air and aerosol from the central cavity, through the air passage and through the exhaust outlet.

Aerosol collector

A media holddown device a plastics vacuum guide attached to a sheet metal vacuum beam, the guide includes vacuum chambers in communication with the beam through openings to control the negative pressures applied to media of varying widths by a fan. Dividing walls are provided between the chambers to maintain the value of the negative pressure larger than a predetermined value, especially for media with conventional widths. An intermediate wall divides the guide into front and rear chambers to increase the control of media leading edges. The number, size and pattern of arrangement of openings are selected to produce desired air flow characteristics.

Holddown device for hardcopy apparatus

Vapour removed from the drying chamber of a hardcopy apparatus is condensed and passed to a reservoir from which it is intermittently pumped into an ink supply cartridge. Cartridge supplies ink from a first bag via a first nozzle. As the first bag contracts, it allows a second bag to expand to receive the condensate from reservoir via a valving system and a second nozzle. In addition, a pump supplies air the second bag via piping; by switching over the valving system, it is the same pump which is used to transfer the condensate from reservoir to the cartridge.

Ink condensate removal in hardcopy apparatus

A printer vacuum guide member of plastics material, attached to a printer chassis of metal so as to allow thermal movements, has flexible limbs which extend from walls near the ends of the member to attachment points for receiving fixing screws. The member is fixedly attached to the chassis at points at a central location. To further reduce the effects of thermal expansion, the guide member may be sub-divided into separate component parts along its length.
