A system for cleaning a gas turbine engine may generally include a wash stand having a base frame and a plurality of fluid injection nozzles configured to be supported by the base frame relative to the gas turbine engine. The nozzles may be configured to inject a cleaning fluid through an inlet of the fan casing of the engine as the fan blades are being rotated in a rotational direction such that the cleaning fluid is directed past the rotating fan blades and into a compressor inlet of the engine. Additionally, each nozzle may be oriented at a positive tangential angle defined relative to the rotational direction of the plurality of fan blades. The system may also include a fluid source in flow communication with the wash stand for supplying the cleaning fluid to the plurality of fluid injection nozzles.

System and method for cleaning a gas turbine engine and related wash stand

A system and method for cleaning an installed gas turbine engine is provided. The system may include a controller on an engine core, wherein the engine core defines a primary gas path and includes at least one airfoil extending into the primary gas path. The method may include initiating a cleaning program and directing a cleaning fluid toward the engine core in response to the initiation of the cleaning program. The method may further include initiating delivery of the cleaning fluid as a non-vaporized liquid within the primary gas path to the engine core.

Turbine engine cleaning systems and methods

A system for in situ cleaning of internal components of a gas turbine engine may generally include a plug assembly defining a fluid passageway that is configured to be installed within an access port of the engine such that the fluid passageway defines a flow path between inner and outer casings of the engine. The plug assembly may include an inner sleeve at least partially defining the fluid passageway and an outer sleeve configured to receive a portion of the inner sleeve. The system may also include a fluid conduit configured to be coupled between a fluid source positioned external to the gas turbine engine and an inlet end of the plug assembly for supplying a cleaning fluid to the plug assembly. The cleaning fluid may be directed through the fluid passageway and may then be expelled from the plug assembly into the interior of the gas turbine engine.
