A method for making methylolated hydantoins by reacting a hydantoin, a formaldehyde such as paraformaldehyde and an alkaline catalyst at conditions of temperature and pressure sufficient to induce reaction to obtain a product in essentially 100% active form. Dry methylolated hydantoin product made by this process may be stored or shipped more economically than an aqueous solution containing a methylolated hydantoin.

Process for preparing methylolated hydantoins

A halogenated hydantoin product and method of producing same for use as e.g. a bleaching agent or disinfectant comprising a halogenated hydantoin of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is methyl or ethyl and X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 which may be the same or different are chlorine or bromine, either as the sole constituent or in admixture with halogenated dimethylhydantoins. The products are substantially dust-free, free-flowing and upon compaction form a solid product of high physical integrity.

Method for preparing halogenated hydantoins

A halogenated hydantoin product and method of producing same for use as e.g. a bleaching agent or disinfectant comprising a halogenated hydantoin of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is methyl or ethyl and X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 which may be the same or different is chlorine or bromine, either as the sole constituent or in admixture with halogenated dimethylhydantoins. The products are substantially dust-free, free-flowing and upon compaction form a solid product of high physical integrity.

Shaped halogenated hydantoins

A process for preparing alpha and beta crystalline forms of N,N'-ethylene bis-stearamide (EBS). Heating of EBS at temperatures of 120.degree.-160.degree. C. to melt the EBS results in formation of 95+% alpha which when cooled to 40.degree. C. or less remains in the alpha state, but upon reheating to about 80.degree. C. results in 95+% conversion to the beta crystalline form. Heating of the alpha crystalline form at temperatures ranging from about 45.degree.-90.degree. C. for selected periods of time results in mixtures of alpha and beta.
