An apparatus for stripping sheathing from longitudinally axially extending wire at controllable depth comprising a frame; a carriage on the frame linearly movable longitudinally; wire clamp structure on the carriage for sidewardly clamping the wire sheathing, at a location spaced from the end of the wire advanced past the clamp structure, the clamp structure movable longitudinally by the carriage; a rotating spindle on the frame and blade structure on the spindle and rotatable thereby to rotatably cut into the wire sheathing, the blade structure having cutting edges; structure to control the depth of cutting of the blade structure into the sheathing, and as the spindle rotates; and first drive structure operatively connected with the carriage to carry the wire to longitudinally selected positions at which the blade structure then cuts into the sheathing to controlled depth, the carriage being retractable so that a cut plug of the sheathing is pulled endwise off the wire.

An apparatus for stripping sheathing from longitudinally axially extending wire at controllable depth comprising a frame; a carriage on the frame linearly movable longitudinally,; wire clamp structure on the carriage for sidewardly clamping the wire sheathing, at a location spaced from the end of the wire advanced past the clamp structure, the clamp structure movable longitudinally by the carriage; a rotating spindle on the frame and blade structure on the spindle and rotatable thereby to rotatably cut into the wire sheathing, the blade structure having cutting edges; structure to control the depth of cutting of the blade structure into the sheathing, and as the spindle rotates; and first drive structure operatively connected with the carriage to carry the wire to longitudinally selected positions at which the blade structure then cuts into the sheathing to controlled depth, the carriage being retractable so that a cut plug of the sheathing is pulled endwise off the wire.

A wire feeding system, for use with apparatus that processes the wire in conjunction with intermittent advancement of the wire, the feeding system operating to de-reel the wire from a reel and supply the de-reeled wire to the apparatus, the system comprising wire drive structure to positively advance the wire; lost motion structure between the wire drive structure and the wire processing apparatus to maintain the wire taut during intermittent operation of the wire processing apparatus; and the wire drive structure comprising belt loop structure having elongated wire gripping stretch structure. Adjustability of the belt loops is also provided, along with use of associated wire guide means for wires of different diameters.

Apparatus for successively attaching terminals to stripped ends of electric conductors which are delivered from a wire cutting and insulation stripping apparatus to a conductor supply zone in which the conductors are successively picked up by gripping jaws of finger assemblies carried by a conveyor chain and transported to a terminal attaching zone including successive spaced apart first and second terminal attaching devices, each having dies for crimping a terminal end portion to a received end of the conductor, and in which a conductor gripping mechanism in the terminal attaching zone is operatively controlled to axially move the conductor with a terminal attached to one end by the first terminal attaching means in a direction and for a period dependent upon its length to dispose its opposite end in a predetermined position for the attachment of a terminal thereto by the second terminal attaching device.

Apparatus for successively attaching terminals to the stripped ends of electric conductors which are delivered from a wire cutting and insulation stripping apparatus to a conductor supply zone in which the conductors are successively picked up by gripping jaws of finger assemblies carried by a conveyor chain and transported to a terminal attaching zone in which the conductor is axially moved to position a stripped end in a receiving portion of a terminal that has been delivered to an associated terminal attaching device and in which appropriate dies are operative to secure the terminal to the conductor end.
