Methods and arrangements for load-shifting time deferrable devices. An electrical load scheduling mechanism is provided, and this is placed in communication with an appliance. Electrical grid load conditions are assessed, and delivery of electrical power to the appliance is scheduled via the electrical load scheduling mechanism. The scheduling includes altering a predetermined delivery of electric power to the appliance based on the assessed electrical grid conditions.

Plug arrangements for alleviating peak loads

Methods and arrangements for calculating a power budget. Data are received, the data including data relating to a current state of an electrical grid at a power-drawing location which draws at least one variable electrical load, the at least one variable electrical load being subject to variable pricing. At least one prediction is determined, the at least one prediction pertaining to a future state of the electrical grid and a future electrical load to be drawn at the power-drawing location. A power budget is thereupon calculated, with respect to the power-drawing location, based on the data and the at least one prediction. Other variants and embodiments are broadly contemplated herein.

A method for improving power factor includes collecting consumption data of at least one appliance, building a consumption profile for each of the at least one appliance based on the consumption data collected, reconstructing reactive power consumption of each of the at least one appliance based on the consumption profile for each of the at least one appliance, and computing a schedule for each of the at least one appliance in accordance the reactive power consumption of each of the at least one appliance to improve power factor while respecting at least one constraint.
