There are provided measures for satellite coverage change handling. Such measures exemplarily include, at a network entity managing a first cell of a mobile network and a second cell of said mobile network, the first cell covering a geographical area, and the second cell covering said geographical area, maintaining assignment of a first satellite beam corresponding to a first passing satellite to said first cell, a first satellite beam coverage of said first satellite beam overlapping with said geographical area, determining entrance of a second satellite beam coverage of a second satellite beam corresponding to a second passing satellite into said geographical area, assigning said second satellite beam to said second cell, and deciding to trigger handover of a terminal located within said second satellite beam coverage within said geographical area and served by said first cell to said second cell.

A method and system for selecting traffic processors for processing and transmitting broadcast/multicast service flow in a cellular network includes evaluating processor occupancy of a plurality of traffic processors and selecting the traffic processors with the highest available processor occupancy. The cellular network has one or more base stations that are connected to a radio network controller, the radio network controller having a plurality of traffic processors to process the radio signals and data traffic to be transmitted to the base stations. A required processor occupancy for transmitting the broadcast/multicast service flow to the base stations is estimated and the traffic processors are selected such that their combined available processor occupancy is greater than the required processor occupancy for the broadcast/multicast service flow. The method and system optimizes resource utilization and distribution among the plurality of traffic processors.

Method and system of traffic processor selection for broadcast/multicast service in a wireless network

The present invention provides a method implemented in a control entity within a wireless communication system. The method includes selecting, at the control entity, a plurality of sectors in response to receiving requests for a multicast service from mobile units located within the plurality of sectors. The method also includes allocating, at the control entity, one or more interlace-multiplex pairs for providing the multicast service to the mobile units within the plurality of sectors. One or more of the interlace-multiplex pairs are allocated based on a priority list that ranks priorities of the plurality of interlace-multiplex pairs according to how many of the plurality of sectors provide the multicast service using the corresponding interlace-multiplex pair. The method also includes establishing a call flow over an air interface to the mobile units using the allocated interlace-multiplex pair(s).

In a method for processor overload control in a wireless or other network, a processor occupancy level ('PO') of a network processing unit is monitored and compared to a target PO. If the measured PO exceeds the target PO, one or more network load sources are controlled to reduce the data load of the processing unit, until the measured PO falls below a designated PO. 'Load source' refers to a source of extant and/or potential data traffic through the processing unit, and/or a network control factor relating thereto, the control of which results in a reduction (or prevents an increase) in the data traffic handled by the processor. Examples include existing data flows, new calls, and BE flow window size. The load sources are controlled according to differentiated QOS levels, wherein non delay-critical data flows (e.g., BE flows) are reduced before delay-critical data flows, e.g., EF or AF flows.

Method and system of overload control in packetized communication networks

In a method to support geo-location emergency services in a wireless network, a request message is transmitted from a source base station of one vendor to a target base station of another vendor. For example, the request message might be sent subsequent to a wireless unit initiating an emergency services communication, where it is desired to determine the location of the wireless unit by radiolocation, or otherwise at the network level. Upon receiving the request message, the target base station transmits a report message to the source base station, which includes a one-way transmission delay (or other propagation delay information) of the wireless unit as measured at the target base station. Communication protocols in the network are configured so that there are no automatic transmissions of propagation delay information. Instead, base stations transmit propagation delay information only upon the receipt of request messages requesting the information.

Signaling method to support geo-location emergency services

In a method and system for controlling base station processing unit overload and buffer overflow in a unified manner, one or more processing units of the base station are monitored to determine if the processing unit(s) has entered an overload condition. If so, on a per flow basis, the system generates an advertise window for controlling the amount of data in the data flow, as transmitted to the processing unit from an upstream entity. The advertise window is generated taking into consideration both processor overload and buffer overflow factors. By incorporating these factors, the advertise windows collectively serve to limit both processor overload and buffer overflow, on a system wide basis.

A method and an apparatus for a channel estimator comprising a plurality of distinct filters each of which has a set of different coefficients and each of which is selectively coupled to the input and output of the channel estimator. The channel estimator further comprises a switching circuit that receives an error signal and switches to one of the plurality of filters based on the value of the error signal relative to an established threshold. The error signal is from a decoder coupled to a communication channel whose response is being estimated by the apparatus and method of the present invention.

Apparatus and method for channel estimation used for link adaption with error feedback

A method for adjusting the power of a probe signal to be transmitted by user equipment to system equipment of a wireless communication system. The power of the probe signal is adjusted based on information received by the user equipment from the system equipment. The information is a local mean of RSSI at the system equipment. The adjusted probe signal is transmitted and thus has an increased likelihood of being detected by the system equipment. Also, the power available for transmitting the probe signal is used more efficiently when the probe signal is adjusted in accordance with the local mean information received by the user equipment from system equipment of the wireless communication system.
