A method for capturing dislodged vegetative growth during a surgical procedure is provided. The method includes maneuvering, into a circulatory system, a first cannula having a distal end and an opposing proximal end, such that the first cannula is positioned to capture the vegetative growth en bloc. A second cannula is positioned in fluid communication with the first cannula, such that a distal end of the second cannula is situated in spaced relation to the distal end of the first cannula. A suction force is provided through the distal end of the first cannula so as to capture the vegetative growth. Fluid removed by the suction force is reinfused through the distal end of the second cannula. Subsequent to becoming dislodged, the vegetative growth is captured by the first cannula. A method for capturing a vegetative growth during removal of a pacemaker lead is also provided.

System and methods for removing undesirable material within a circulatory system during a surgical procedure

The present invention relates generally to improved systems and methods for removing undesirable material residing in vessels. More specifically, the present invention relates to systems and methods for using at least one cannula to remove substantially en bloc, from a site of obstruction or interest, undesirable material without fragmentation and without excessive fluid loss.

Systems and methods for removing undesirable material within a circulatory system

A system is provided which includes a cannula and a secondary device. The cannula includes an expandable member, a cannula lumen, and a cannula proximal end. The expandable member includes a proximal most end, a distal most end, at least two movable sections, with the space between the at least two moveable sections, and an impermeable membrane extending across the space between each of the at least two moveable sections. In addition, the impermeable membrane extends from the expandable member distal most end to the expandable member proximal most end. The secondary device is configured to be coaxially placed through the cannula lumen. The cannula proximal end is configured to operatively couple to a vacuum source configured to create a negative pressure to pull an undesirable material into the cannula lumen.

Systems and methods for exhausting air from a flow pathway are provided. The systems can include a flow resistor having an input coupled to a fluid source and an outlet to output a fluid at an output flow rate, the flow resistor including an adjustable flow channel for modifying the output flow rate of the fluid flowing through the flow resistor; and a priming device having an elongated portion, the elongated portion being substantially rigid axially and configured for insertion through the outlet of the flow resistor to engage the flow resistor and adjust the output flow rate to allow air to be exhausted from the flow pathway through the flow resistor.

A method for dividing a fibrous structure comprising positioning proximate the fibrous structure an expandable member having electrosurgical elements, expanding the expandable member outwards to tension the fibrous structure across the electrosurgical elements, and activating the electrosurgical elements to deliver energy to the tensioned fibrous structure to divide the tensioned fibrous structure.

Systems and methods for minimally-invasive division of fibrous structures

A device for dividing a fibrous structure comprising a catheter; an expandable member positioned near a distal end of the catheter and in fluid communication with a lumen of the catheter; and a cutting element situated on an outer surface of the expandable member. A method for dividing a fibrous structure comprising positioning, proximate the fibrous structure, an expandable member having a cutting element situated thereon; expanding the expandable member outwards to tension the fibrous structure across the cutting element; and activating the cutting element to weaken or cut the fibrous structure. A method for treating carpal tunnel syndrome comprising inserting a needle into the carpal tunnel; directing a guidewire to a position proximate the transverse carpal ligament; advancing, along the guidewire, a device having an expandable member and a cutting element; positioning the cutting element; tensioning the ligament across the cutting element; and weakening or cutting the ligament.

Systems and methods for percutaneous division of fibrous structures

Catheters for percutaneous applications are disclosed. The catheter according to example embodiments may comprise a substantially straight section, an anchoring section positioned proximal to the substantially straight section. The anchoring section can have a curvature for providing longitudinal traction with a tissue to anchor the catheter to the tissue and a pathway extending through the catheter for transporting fluids. The pathway may comprise a first section and a second section in fluid communication with each other, where the first section extends through the length of the straight section, and the second section extends through the anchoring section and has a curvature which mimics the curvature of the anchoring section.

Self-anchoring catheters and methods of use

A system for removing an undesirable material from within a vessel is provided. The system includes a cannula designed for maneuvering within a blood vessel to a site of interest and applying a suction force, such that the undesirable material can be captured and removed along the cannula away from the site. The system also may include a catheter having a balloon at its distal end. The balloon may be designed to be positioned adjacent to the undesirable material such that the undesirable material is situated between the balloon and the cannula. The catheter may also be designed to subsequently impart a force onto the undesirable material for removal of the undesirable material. A method for removing an undesirable material from within a vessel is also provided.

Systems and methods for removing undesirable material within a circulatory system utilizing a balloon catheter

The systems and methods of the present disclosure provides an independent passive variable resistor that can be interposed between a fluid reservoir at an inlet pressure and receptacle at an outlet pressure. The resistor can adjust resistance to the pressure difference from the input to the output so that the flow rate through it is a constant rate. The resistor can include a moveable element and a biasing mechanism located in a chamber to create a flow channel. Each side of the moveable element is exposed to the inlet and outlet pressures and moves within the flow channel to modify the resistance of the flow through the chamber in response to the pressures. The balance of these forces determines the position moveable element, which interacts with the fluid channel to determine the flow resistance through variable resistor. The biasing mechanism can provide the necessary pressure to establish equilibrium flow rate.

Systems and methods for continuous infusion of a fluid, which may be heated, into a balloon catheter. A system for balloon inflation, the system comprising a catheter having an inflow lumen and an outflow lumen, a balloon positioned at a distal end of the catheter, the balloon being in fluid communication with the inflow and the outflow lumen, and an infusion device in fluid communication with the balloon through the inflow and outflow lumens, the infusion device configured for continuously circulating a fluid into and out of the balloon to maintain the balloon at a constant pressure and volume by matching a flow of the fluid into the balloon via the inflow lumen with a flow of the fluid out of the balloon via the outflow lumen in order to keep the balloon volume and pressure constant during an entire infusion.
