Parallel printing systems and methods incorporate inverter assemblies for not only inverting media during transport through the system but also to register the media or provide a velocity buffer transports with different drive velocities. The inverter assemblies can include the capability to optionally deskew the media and provide lateral registration corrections. The inverter assembly nip rollers are sufficiently spaced from process drive nip rollers to decouple a document in the inverter assembly from the highway paths. The method comprises combining the inverting function selectively with either the registering or the velocity buffering functions.

The illustrated transversely variable arcuate control baffle system is provided by a variably positionable split baffle system providing for a larger arcuate buckle for one side of a skewed sheet than the other side of the skewed sheet. This may be in proportion to a sensed initial skew of the sheet.

A stalled roll registration system and method includes a mechanism that allows for pivoting deskew action in a pre-registration nip. A ball-on-roll pre-registration transport is used in combination with a stalled roll registration nip. Any initial buckle is depleted rapidly as the body of a sheet straightens out at the registration nip under the influence of the ball-on-belt transport. The method includes the steps of providing a registration nip in a sheet path; providing a ball-on-belt sheet transport for directing a sheet towards the registration nip; feeding the sheet into the registration nip with the ball-on-belt transport; and then pivoting the sheet within the ball-on-belt transport in order to register the sheet against the registration nip.

Stalled roll registration system and method employing a ball-on-belt input transport

A sheet feed cassette adapted to be installed within a sheet feed unit of an image forming apparatus such as, for example, a copier as a printer. The cassette includes a frame including at least a side frame and a bottom frame. A bottom plate is provided above the bottom frame including collapsible guide walls for positioning four separate stacks of sheets within the cassette on the plate. Each of the walls are adapted to collapse thereby allowing each of the four stacks of sheets individually to be moved within the cassette to be in contiguous relation to a feeder unit for feeding individual sheets from a single stack of sheets that is positioned within the cassette into the apparatus. A feeding device moves each of the four stacks from different positions within the cassette to the feeder unit so that individual sheets can be fed to the apparatus for each of the four stacks.

A motion-defect-free assembly and a method of minimizing cleaning apparatus induced motion quality disturbances in a moving belt photoreceptor of a toner image reproduction machine are provided. The assembly for practicing the method includes at least one resilient member located to each side of the moving belt photoreceptor at a desired belt cleaning station along a path of movement of the belt photoreceptor, and a cleaning apparatus that is mounted at the cleaning station and that includes at least one separately moveable cleaning member. The cleaning apparatus also includes a moveable frame having frame locating members, and the at least one separately moveable cleaning member. The motion-defect-free assembly also includes a drive and control system for first moving the moveable frame into contact with each of the locating members and for then separately moving, relative to the moveable frame, the at least one separately moveable cleaning member into contact and cleaning engagement with the moving belt photoreceptor, thereby minimizing cleaning apparatus induced motion quality disturbances in the moving belt photoreceptor.

Electrostatographic reproduction machine having a motion-defect-free cleaning method and assembly

A method and apparatus for increasing the useful life of cleaning members within an image forming apparatus by side shifting a cleaning member laterally in relation to a photoreceptor. In various exemplary embodiments, the cleaning apparatus includes a cleaning member mounted on a shaft, and side shifting member that moves the shaft along its axis to move the cleaning member laterally. In various exemplary embodiments, the cleaning apparatus moves the cleaning member laterally in a continuous sweeping motion. In various exemplary embodiments, the cleaning apparatus moves the cleaning member laterally in incremental steps.

Side shifting cleaning apparatus and method

A fuser baffle which helps to minimize or eliminate sheet wrinkle by a fuser. A small &ldquo;saddle&rdquo; is added to the center section of the inlet to the fuser on the baffle surface which last contacts and controls the sheet before entry into the fuser nip. The saddle removes most of the corrugation along approximately 90 to 95% of the centermost portion of the sheet. Any remaining corrugation at the inboard and outboard ends is removed by the fuser flare. The baffle is applicable to any fusing device which uses localized pressure to fix an image to a sheet.

Anti-wrinkle fuser baffle

An apparatus and method for correcting top edge sheet misregistration using a sensor array. An array sensor is placed in the paper path prior to transfer. A signal is generated indicating the position of the sheet. As a function of the signal the print controller causes the image to be exposed and developed on the photoreceptor in alignment with the sheet position. The aligned image is then transferred to the sheet.
