This application provides a communication method and apparatus. In the method, a policy control function (PCF) receives request information from a terminal or a service server. The request information requests to establish a first quality of service (QoS) flow for the terminal, and includes first indication information indicating to perform network coding on the first QoS flow. The PCF sends network coding information to an access network device accessed by the terminal and/or the terminal based on the request information. The network coding information includes second indication information indicating a QoS flow on which network coding is to be performed.

Embodiments of this application provide a data transmission method, apparatus, and device. In the data transmission method, a first apparatus obtains a first link quality packet message that includes link quality information and indication information. The indication information is used to indicate that the link quality information is buffered. The first apparatus sends the first link quality packet message to a second apparatus, where the first link quality packet message is used by the second apparatus to perform network optimization based on the first link quality packet message. The data transmission method disclosed herein improves network optimization accuracy.

Embodiments of the present invention provide a gateway system and a communication method. The gateway system includes: a control plane entity, connected or integrated with a mobility management network element, and configured to allocate an IP address to UE and configure a data path for connecting a user plane entity with an RAN, a PDN or another gateway; one or more user plane entities, located between the PDN and the RAN, independent of the control plane entity, configured to forward data on the data path configured by the control plane entity. The gateway system is composed of the control plane entity and the user plane entity which are independent of each other, the number of the user plane entities may be independently changed to adapt to the change of network traffic without replacing all gateway entities, the network deployment is more convenient and the cost is lower.

This application provides a message processing method and system, and a user plane function UPF device. The method includes: receiving user equipment (UE) authentication information sent by a session management function (SMF) device; matching a received uplink message of the UE with the UE authentication information, and if the matching succeeds, sending the uplink message that includes the UE authentication information to a first application (APP); and performing authentication by the first APP on the UE according to the UE authentication information. In the foregoing process, authentication on the UE does not need to be performed by a remote APP. This simplifies the authentication process, reduces network resource overhead, speeds up authentication on UEs, reduces the latency of UE authentication, and further increases the application switching speed.

The correspondence between the user plane network element and the address of the local application server is used to indicate the address of the local application server. The method also includes sending the address of the local application server corresponding to the user plane network element after the handover.

When a resource of an access network is changed, receiving, by an application network, resource information sent by the access network, where the resource information is information that indicates a current resource status of the access network; and adjusting, by the application network, a service request related to a current service according to the resource information and sending the adjusted service request to the access network; or negotiating, by the application network, a current service parameter with a User Equipment UE according to the resource information, so that the UE modifies the parameter related to the current service according to a result of the negotiation. In the embodiments of the present invention the service parameter or the service request related to the current service matches the changed access network resource, thereby improving the QoS.

A method for reporting radio access network element information includes: acquiring reporting policy information, where the reporting policy information includes set reporting content and a set reporting condition (); and if the reporting condition is satisfied, reporting a radio access network element information report to a control network element by using signaling according to the reporting content that includes location information and corresponding time information or reporting a radio access network element information report to a gateway device by using a tunnel according to the reporting content that includes location information (). In embodiments of the present invention, reporting policy information, for example, reporting content and a reporting condition, may be configured flexibly according to a scenario, and when the reporting condition is satisfied, a radio access network element information report may be reported to a control network element or a gateway device according to the reporting content.
