The present invention relates to a proteolytic extract obtained from bromelain for the treatment of connective tissue diseases. In particular, the present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising a proteolytic extract obtained from bromelain for the treatment of diseases such as Dupuytren's disease and Peyronie's disease.

Proteolytic extract from bromelain for the treatment of connective tissue disorders

The present invention relates to a proteolytic extract obtained from bromelain for the treatment of connective tissue diseases. In particular, the present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition that includes proteolytic extract obtained from bromelain for the treatment of diseases such as Dupuytren's disease and Peyronie's disease.

Embodiments of the present invention provide Dermal Micro-organs (DMOs), methods and apparatuses for producing the same. The invention relates to a wound dressing and methods of preparation and use thereof for promoting healing of a wound bed. In particular, the wound dressing is advantageous for application to a debrided wound bed. The wound dressing comprises an open conduit polymeric foam matrix, and a hydrophilic polymer which is disposed in dry form on the inner surfaces of the conduits within the matrix.

A pad for the treatment of inflammatory afflictions, which comprise an absorbing matrix, a medicament that is a hypertonic substance such as inorganic salt solutions, and a functional backing for directing and limiting the activity of the medicament to the desired body surface. The pad may further comprise binding means for maintaining it in place and in engagement with the desired body surface. The absorbing matrix and the functional backing may be structurally connected or separate. The absorbing matrix may be made of cotton, lignin cellulose or synthetic absorbing materials.

Apparatus suitable for use in the prevention and treatment of burn induced compartment syndrome facilitates the rapid and efficient deployment of enzymatic compositions to the affected limb or limbs of a burn victim suffering from a circumferential burn. The apparatus includes a flexible, water-impermeable generally cylindrical covering layer. The covering layer has an inner surface facing the limb and an outer surface. The covering layer has a proximal sealable open end through which the burned limb is inserted and a distal closed end. An enzymatic escharotomy agent is contained within the covering layer. The covering layer retains the enzymatic escharotomy agent in close proximity to the burned limb, and the apparatus is enclosed within a sterile sealed package evacuated from moisture. In use, the burned limb is enclosed within the apparatus, and the enzymatic escharotomy agent is activated in situ by contacting the agent with hydrating fluid, thereby inducing enzymatic escharotomy of the circumferential burn.

Apparatus and methods for enzymatic escharotomy in burn induced compartment syndrome

Method of holding in place a transcutaneous implant by applying an adhesive in liquid form to the implant and the area of the patient's skin about the needle and allowing the adhesive to set. The implant is constituted by an infusion needle, a catheter or any transcutaneous implant. Whenever the adhesive is in liquid form, it has such a surface tension that it will flow along the implant and the skin to reach a terminal point, which is the point at which the implant is inserted. The adhesive is applied in liquid form and flows along the implant and the skin to reach the point at which the implant is inserted, and then allowed to set to hold the implant in place.
