Described herein are technologies related to an implementation of transmission power detection in a communication device. The portion of a data signal, and in certain implementations the preamble, of the data signal is used in providing an integrated signal output to determine actual transmission power.

Preamble-based transmission power detection

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for calibration of quadrature imbalance in direct conversion transceivers are contemplated. A transceiver controller may perform a self-calibration to address quadrature imbalance. The controller may isolate the transmitter and receiver from any antennas, couple the radio frequency (RF) section of the transmitter to the RF section of the receiver via a loopback path, and inject a calibration signal into the transmitter. In the loopback path, the controller may phase-shift the signal that propagates through the transmitter using two different phase angles to produce two different signals that propagate into the receiver. By measuring the two different signals that exit the receiver, the controller may be able to calculate correction coefficients, or parameters, which may be used to adjust elements that address or correct the quadrature imbalance for both the transmitter and receiver.

Calibration of quadrature imbalance via loopback phase shifts

Some demonstrative embodiments include devices, systems and/or methods of estimating a phase between radio-frequency (RF) chains. For example, an apparatus may include a power detector coupled between first and second RF chains; and a phase estimator to estimate a phase difference between the first and second RF chains based on a combined power value detected by the power detector responsive to simultaneous communication via both the first and second RF chains.

Device, system and method of estimating a phase between radio-frequency chains

Calibration of quadrature imbalance in direct conversion transceivers is contemplated. A transceiver controller may perform a self-calibration to address quadrature imbalance. The controller may couple the radio frequency (RF) section of the transmitter to the RF section of the receiver via a loopback path and transfer a wideband signal into the transmitter. In the loopback path, the controller may phase-shift the wideband signal that propagates through the transmitter using two different phase angles to produce two different signals that propagate into the receiver. By measuring the transmitter and receiver signals, and performing a Fast Fourier Transform calculation, the controller may be able to calculate correction coefficients, or parameters, which may be used to adjust elements that address or correct the quadrature imbalance for both the transmitter and receiver.

Calibration of quadrature imbalances using wideband signals

An embodiment of the present invention provides an apparatus, comprising, a wireless platform adapted for communication with at least one additional wireless platform, wherein the wireless platform and the at least one additional wireless platform each have their own set of wireless communication devices and capabilities, wherein at least one of the wireless communication devices and capabilities are in common between the wireless platform and the at least one additional wireless platform, and wherein when the wireless platform and the at least one additional wireless platform are within communication range of each other or are on at least one common wireless communication protocol, the wireless platform is capable of virtualizing to the wireless platform some or all wireless devices and capabilities available on the at least one additional wireless platform.

Techniques for augmented functionality by sharing wireless resources

A transceiver device that performs an intercept point calibration using signal interferers is described. The signal interferers include at least self-generated signal interferers or opportunistic signal interferers in surrounding areas. Due to non-linearity in the transceiver device, intermodulation distortion (IMD) signal components are generated. Filtering of the IMD signal components is performed to allow low-frequency components, such as a second order intermodulation (IM) to pass through. A dynamic minimization algorithm is performed to minimize distortion effects of the low-frequency components.

Method for second intercept point calibration based on opportunistic reception

An embodiment of this invention combines feed-forward and feedback frequency division circuits in a such a way, to provide greater flexibility in choosing the non-integer division ratios at the output, with little added complexity. Alternate embodiments include additional divider(s) in signal or feedback paths providing additional flexibility and design simplification. An embodiment uses in-phase/quadrature signals to select the desired modes at feedback-path and signal-path mixers. Various alternatives are also described.
