A method for visually indicating that a door of a drug delivery device is open is described. A closing force to move the door is received. Then, it is detected that the door is not closed. A biasing element pushes the door to a perceptibly open position with an opening force when the door reaches the last 30 degrees of rotation of toward closure or when the door reaches the last 30% of range of movement during the rotation of the door. The perceptibly open position of the door is indicated relative to a drug delivery device housing.

An injector includes a body, an injection needle movably mounted to the body and a pathway within the body sized for receiving either of a first cartridge or a differently dimensioned second cartridge therein. The pathway includes a coupler mounted at a distal end that is engageable with the first cartridge or the second cartridge for to fluidly connect with the injection needle. At least two adapter collars are mounted within the pathway. A first adapter collar is configured to receive either one of the two cartridges therethrough upon insertion into the pathway, and configured to engage a portion of the first cartridge to stabilize the first cartridge within the pathway. A second adapter collar is also configured to receive either one of the two cartridges therethrough upon insertion into the pathway, but configured to engage a portion of the second cartridge to stabilize the second cartridge within the pathway.

Injector usable with different dimension cartridges

A drug delivery device, including: housing, wherein said housing defines an opening and a chamber for a drug cartridge; a movable door connected to the housing, having a range of movement between a fully open position and a closed position, wherein the door blocks access to said opening when the door is in said closed position; a biasing element connected to the housing or the door, wherein the biasing element is positioned to interfere with the movement of the door by applying an opening force to open the door when the range of movement of the door is near the closed position, thus defining an exclusion zone; and a locking mechanism between the door and the housing, the locking mechanism applies a locking force on the door greater and in an opposite direction to the force applied by the biasing element.

A system is disclosed for inserting a pharmaceutical cartridge into a delivery device. Optionally the cartridge is inserted in an arbitrary orientation. Optionally, the system reorients the cartridge to a locked orientation. For example, a driver applies a torque to the cartridge to cause the reorienting. For example, said torque rotates the cartridge around an axis thereof until the cartridge reaches the locked orientation. Optionally, when the cartridge reaches the locked orientation an interference element on the cartridge interlocks with a complementary interference element on the delivery device to lock the cartridge in the locked orientation. Optionally when the cartridge is locked in the second orientation, the torque causes discharge the pharmaceutical.

An automatic injector device for delivering a pharmaceutical substance from a cartridge having a protruding edge, positioned in a housing cartridge bay having an opening sized to allow passage of the cartridge; a door to the cartridge bay opening, the door connected to the housing and having an unlatched position and a latched position, the door defining a trajectory between the unlatched position and the latched position; an interference element having a deflected and an inflected orientation, the deflected orientation mechanically interferes with the trajectory of the door; and a contact interface positioned along the cartridge bay and extending up to the protruding edge, the contact interface mechanically couples the deflected and inflected orientation with a sensed contact of the protruding edge, such that when the protruding edge is positioned at the contact interface, the contact interface shifts the interference element into the inflected orientation.
