A portable electronic device provides signals corresponding to information to a display that allows a viewer to perceive 3-dimensional (3-D) depth, where the information includes multiple icons in a user interface that are arranged in 2-dimensional (2-D) fields that are spatially offset along a direction orthogonal to the 2-D fields. Then, the portable electronic device captures spatial-position information (such as a distance with respect to a surface of the display) associated with at least a digit of the viewer. The portable electronic device analyzes the spatial-position information to determine a change in a 3-D spatial position of at least the digit, and associates the change in the 3-D spatial position with at least one of the icons. Next, the portable electronic device performs the operation based on the change in the 3-D spatial position and at least the one of the icons.

One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that facilitates displaying automatically recognized text, wherein the automatically recognized text includes optical character recognition (OCR) text or intelligent character recognition (ICR) text. During operation, the system receives a source image containing text from a user. Next, the system performs a character-recognition operation on the source image to produce recognized text. The system then locates a data field within the source image. Next, the system identifies a subset of the recognized text that corresponds with the data field. After that, the system displays the source image to the user. At the same time, the system displays the subset of the recognized text in close proximity to the data field in the source image to facilitate comparing the recognized text with the text contained in the source image.

The invention relates to a system for skipping a plurality of pages displayed on a mobile device. The system includes a computer processor, an accelerometer module, a calculating module, and a page-skipping engine, which are all operatively connected. The accelerometer module executes on the computer processor and is configured to detect, using an accelerometer, a movement of the mobile device, wherein the movement comprises a magnitude; determine that the mobile device is oriented for skipping the plurality of pages; and determine that the movement triggers skipping the plurality of pages. The calculating module executes on the computer processor and is configured to calculate, based on the magnitude of the movement and a plurality of settings, the plurality of pages to skip. The page-skipping engine executes on the computer processor and is configured to display a target page on the mobile device.
