An information management system is intended for management of digitally represented information which is associated with absolute positions on an imaginary surface (). The imaginary surface () contains at least two regions (-), each of which is dedicated to predetermined management of the digitally represented information. In the system the management of the digitally represented information is carried out on the basis of the region affiliation of the absolute positions associated with the information. The system is suitably based on use of a position-coding pattern which defines the imaginary surface () and which in parts is applicable on different bases. The system makes possible both digital recording of information and control of how the information thus recorded is to be managed. A database, a method for management of information, a method for compiling a pattern layout, a product and use are also described.

General information management system

The invention relates to a method for generating a printout of a section of a global position-coding pattern in a system comprising a computer unit and a printer unit connected to the computer unit. The method is characterized by the steps of generating in the computer unit boundary information that describes the boundaries of the section in the global position-coding pattern; transmitting the boundary information from the computer unit to the printer unit; generating graphical information in the printer unit by means of an algorithm that defines the global position-coding pattern and on the basis of the boundary information, which graphical information describes pattern symbols in the section; and printing out the graphical information on a base by the printer unit.

Method for printing a global position-coding pattern

The invention relates to a method of effecting in a computer system transmission of data between a digital user unit and a computer resource, the user unit being adapted to detect positions on a base which is provided with a part of a global position-coding pattern. The invention is characterized in that a request for access to a computer resource is received, using a first protocol stack, by the computer system from the user unit, said request containing a position indication, relating to which part of the global position-coding pattern that has been detected by the user unit. The computer system gains access to a computer resource using a communication mode and a second protocol stack. The communication mode is chosen based on the position indication. Only the second protocol stack comprises TCP/IP functionality, so that only data transmitted between the computer system and the computer resource comprises routing information.

Method for transmitting information

A system for information management consists of a product, for instance a notepad sheet, which has a writing surface () with a position code (), which codes a plurality of positions on the surface, and a device, which is adapted to record the information which is being written on the writing surface by detecting the position code. Moreover, on the product there are a number of activation icons (-). When such an activation icon is detected by the device, the device initiates a predetermined operation which utilizes the recorded information. Such an operation can, for instance, consist of sending the recorded information to an indicated address. A product, a device, a method and a computer program for information management are also shown.

Network-based system

The invention relates to a method of transferring data from a drawing device, which while utilizing a position-coding pattern, printed on a physical page, digitally records handwritten information, to an application in a computer system. The drawing device transfers recorded data to a memory in the computer system. A registering unit in the system determines from which part of the position-coding pattern the recorded data originates and activates, on the basis thereof, one or more applications which are registered as 'subscribers' to data from this part of the pattern. When an application is activated and thus informed of the existence of new data relevant to the application, the application fetches this data. The fetching of data can be made on the basis of the contents of a page-describing file which defines the layout of the physical page.

Method for managing information

The present invention relates to a method for generating a message that is intended to be sent to a destination. The method is characterized by the steps of sending an address parameter, that corresponds to the destination, to a printer unit; printing out a sheet of paper using the printer unit, which sheet of paper comprises a position-coding pattern and the address parameter; generating an information sequence by writing on the sheet of paper with a drawing device, which drawing device is capable of detecting positions on the sheet of paper by reading the position-coding pattern; recording the address parameter using the drawing device; and combining the recorded address parameter with the information sequence into a message.

Method for processing information

A user of a digital pen in an information management system is allowed to have a number of aliases when communicating in the system. The system includes a plurality of products, which are provided with a position code, a plurality of digital pens capable of reading the position code, and a server communicating with said digital pens. The server includes a position database which associates positions coded by the position code with rules for information management. A pen identifier is associated with a digital pen and at least one alias is associated with the pen identifier, the alias being indicative of a role of a pen user when the user communicates via the digital pen in the information management system. The alias information is communicated to the system, e.g., when the digital pen is operated to mark an activation icon on a product, which includes position codes whose associated rules manage the association between alias and pen identifier.

Method and arrangement in a digital communication system

Disclosed is a method for inputting graphical information into a computer system. The graphical information may arise when a drawing device is moved relative to a base having a position-coding pattern detectable by an optical sensor in the drawing device. The computer system may record position information arising from a first area of the base as graphical input while recording position information arising from a second area of the base as the selection of a property associated with the graphical input. Such a property may be a visual property, such as line type, line thickness, and color.

A payment product has a writing area ( ) which is intended for a user's signature. In the writing area there is a first position-coding pattern ( ) which makes possible digital recording of the signature. The first position-coding pattern is a subset of a larger second position-coding pattern. The payment product is used in a payment system which is based on electronic payment information, which has been recorded by means of the position-coding pattern, being sent to a server unit, which utilizes the position-coding pattern to check that the payment information is valid.

A system for checking the right to access to sensitive information is described, said checking being based on current biometric data of a person whose right to access to the sensitive information is to be checked. The system comprises a data carrier and a processing unit. The data carrier comprises a memory containing sensitive information, a signal processing means and a communication means. The processing unit is adapted to receive the current biometric data from the person and comprises a memory, a signal processing means and a communication means. The process of the processing unit preprocesses the current biometric data and transfers the same to the processor of the data carrier via the communication means. The process of the data carrier compares the received preprocessed biometric data with biometric reference data stored in advance in the memory of the data carrier to determine whether the right to access to the sensitive information exists. A data carrier, a processing unit and a method of checking, based on current biometric data of a person, the right to access to sensitive information stored on a data carrier are also described.

Electronic recording and communication of information

A product has a surface having with a position-coding pattern that codes a plurality of positions on the surface. The position-coding pattern includes a plurality of symbols each having at least two different values. Each position on the surface being coded with a plurality of symbols. Each symbol including a raster point in a raster extending over the surface, and at least one marking, the location of which in relation to the raster point specifies the value of the symbol. The markings can include information representing more than one spatial resolution level and varying between different markings. The position-coding pattern can be used in different contexts for position determination such as digitizing handwriting.

System and method for determining positional information

A product has a surface provided with a first coding pattern and a second coding pattern. The coding patterns may include symbols each of which represents at least two different values. Each symbol in the first coding pattern may be defined by one raster point and at least one marking, the raster point being included in a first raster, which extends over the surface. Each symbol in the second coding pattern may also be defined by one raster point and at least one marking, the raster point being included in a second raster. This second raster may be displaced in relation to the first raster and may have a different spatial scale than the first raster. Each symbol in the first and the second pattern may have a value which, for example, can be indicated by the location of the marking belonging to the symbol in relation to a raster point in the first and second raster, respectively.
