The present disclosure discloses a method for adding group members. When the first user needs to add a new member to the target group in the instant messaging system, in response to triggering of a first user, an imported target document is obtained, and the target document includes user information of one or more second users in an instant messaging system. After obtaining the target document, the target document is parsed to obtain user information of one or more second users included in the target document in the instant messaging system. After obtaining the user information through parsing, the one or more second users will be added to the target group in the instant messaging system based on the user information.
