Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) transmitters, receivers and transceivers are disclosed, as well as other associated devices, systems and methods. In particular, aspects and embodiments of the disclosure relate to MIMO transmitters, receivers and transceivers implemented as modules of relay devices for signals transmitted to and/or from base-stations and/or mobile-stations, in particular when such devices are implemented on mobile and/or aerial vehicles, and in particular for transmitting, receiving and/or forwarding wireless communication signals at frequencies in what is termed the 'millimeter-wave band'. In such devices, a power control unit is configured to determine an energy availability measure and/or a power demand measure and, in response, cause a switching unit to connect a plurality of RF chains to a plurality of antenna elements in different states.

A method of controlling transmission of a wireless signal in a wireless telecommunications network including a transmitting node, a receiving node, and an Intelligent Reflective Surface (IRS), the transmitting node including a processor operating a first neural network that inputs an input bit sequence and outputs the wireless signal and a transmitter to transmit the wireless signal output by the first neural network, the IRS includes a reflective surface for reflecting the wireless signal transmitted by the transmitter and further includes a processor for applying a phase change to the wireless signal according to a phase shift matrix, and the receiving node includes a receiver for receiving an accumulated wireless signal transmitted by the transmitter and reflected off the reflective surface and a processor operating a second neural network that inputs the received accumulated wireless signal and outputs an output bit sequence.

According to the present disclosure there is provided a multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) transmitter for transmitting wireless communication signals over a communication channel to a receiver, the transmitter including a digital signal processor configured to perform pre-coding on a plurality Nof data streams; a plurality Nof radio-frequency (RF) chains each configured to pass a pre-coded data stream from the digital signal processor to generate a signal representing that data stream; a lens antenna array comprising an array of Nantenna elements; and a selecting unit coupled between the plurality Nof RF chains and the lens antenna array, the selecting unit including a plurality of separate coupling units each configured to couple a respective RF chain to a selective sub-array of Nantenna elements concurrently for transmitting the signal representing the data stream passed through that RF chain.

A method of performing channel estimation in a multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) communication system comprising a downlink device and an uplink device arranged to communicate over a communication channel, the method including at the uplink device: analyzing a first channel vector representing channel gains between the downlink device and a first antenna of the uplink device in the angular domain to identify a set of angular domain support points; generating from the set of angular domain support points a value vector; and feeding back from the uplink device to the downlink device an indication of the value vector; and at the downlink device: analyzing a second channel vector representing channel gains between the downlink device and a second antenna of the uplink device; generating a transmit steering matrix; and generating an estimate of the first channel vector.

This disclosure provides a method in a wireless telecommunications network, and a wireless telecommunications network node for implementing the method, the network including a transmitter having an overall coverage area and a plurality of User Equipment (UE) within the transmitter's overall coverage area, the method including receiving data indicating a first count of UEs of the plurality of UEs disposed in a first section of the transmitter's overall coverage area and further indicating a second count of UEs of the plurality of UEs disposed in a second section of the transmitter's overall coverage area; comparing the first and second counts to a predetermined threshold; and transmitting a first data beam having a first beam coverage area and a second data beam having a second beam coverage area, wherein a magnitude of the first beam coverage area is based on the comparison of the first count to the predetermined threshold and a magnitude of the second beam coverage area is based on upon the comparison of the second count to the predetermined threshold.
