A method for sending video over a cellular link includes obtaining from a modem layer an uplink buffer status metric. An indication derived from the metric is transmitted from the modem layer to a video source application. The indication is used to adjust a video bitrate.

Using uplink buffer status to improve video stream adaptation control

Embodiments include apparatuses, methods, and systems including a content scenario detection unit and a rate adjustment unit for the communication of a multimedia content. The multimedia content may include a low bitrate scenario and a high bitrate scenario. The content scenario detection unit may detect the low bitrate scenario of the multimedia content for a multimedia traffic when a transmitter is to generate a first window of one or more frames of the low bitrate scenario during a first time period at a first encoding rate. The rate adjustment unit may determine, based at least in part on the detection of the low bitrate scenario, a second encoding rate different from the first encoding rate. The transmitter may generate at the second encoding rate a second window of one or more frames of the low bitrate scenario during a second time period. Other embodiments may also be described and claimed.

Content scenario and network condition based multimedia communication

Automatically finding and using network services. An extensible framework is defined which allows any network service, new or old, to be defined. A base schema is defined that defines existing network services, and extension schemes may also be defined which are specific to new network services. A vendor can define the schemas in XML, as well as using software plug-ins and configuration data. The information is stored on a network provider's server. Clients can browse the network providers server for available services. Any available services can be accepted. When this happens, a form is provided to the client; the client fills out the form; and returns it. The information on the form is associated with the XML schemas and used to select and automatically configure the network service.

Extensible network services system

Described are a system and method of transmitting a time slot status message between nodes in a SONET network. One or more time slots in a SONET link may be allocated to provision a SONET circuit. Upon provisioning or de-provisioning the SONET circuit, a time slot status message may be transmitted to one or more non-participating nodes in the SONET network to indicate a change in status of one or more time slots of the SONET link.
