A capsule composition comprising: (a) a polyester shell having a thickness of no more than 20 microns, and (b) a solution containing a visual and/or olfactory indicator, wherein the solution is encapsulated by the polyester shell. Also described herein is a method for detecting alpha particle radiation, in which: (i) the capsule composition is placed in contact with an esterase in a location where the presence of alpha particle radiation is being determined; (ii) waiting a period of time for the esterase to degrade the polyester shells, wherein the period of time is insufficient for the esterase to cause leakage of the solution in the absence of alpha particle radiation but is sufficient for alpha particle radiation, if present, to cause leakage from the capsule composition; and (iii) observing whether leakage has occurred at the end of the period of time to determine whether alpha particle radiation is present.

Composition for detecting alpha particle radiation and methods of use

A composition useful for producing a superomniphobic coating on a substrate, the composition comprising a colloidal suspension of a fluorinated siloxane in a non-silicon-containing fluorinated solvent. In some embodiments, the composition further comprises particles of a hydrophobized metal oxide, e.g., silicon oxide, wherein the hydrophobized metal oxide may be fluorinated. In some embodiments, the composition further comprises a non-silicon-containing fluorinated polymer. The invention is also directed to methods for making the above composition. Superomniphobic coatings and methods of preparation

Provided is a Fluorescent Air Leakage Detection (FALD) system and method for locating a defect in an enclosure that uses a nontoxic fluorescent solution as a marker. The solution is aerosolized with an atomizing device and guided to defects by a gas pressure modifying device. Defects are visually located by surveying the enclosure with an ultraviolet or visible light source and identifying a location where accumulated solution fluoresces.

The hydrophobic particles may be present in the composition at a particle concentration of from about 0.1 wt. % to about 1 wt. %. An optically transparent, superhydrophobic surface includes a substrate, a plurality of hydrophobic particles having an average particle size of about 200 nm or less dispersed over the substrate, and a discontinuous binder layer bonding the hydrophobic particles to the substrate, where the hydrophobic particles and the binder layer form an optically transparent, superhydrophobic coating.

Composition for forming an optically transparent, superhydrophobic coating

A taggant composition including a taggant material that is invisible in light of the visible spectrum and fluoresces under a non-visible excitation energy, a binder, and a solvent in which the taggant material and the binder are dissolved. The taggant composition can be printed or otherwise applied to a material such as fabric to provide a detectable and identifiable indicium. A method and apparatus for detecting and decoding the taggant indicium are also provided.

Invisible-fluorescent identification tags for materials

The present invention relates to a method for detecting a print on a surface, the method comprising: (a) contacting the print with a Raman surface-enhancing agent to produce a Raman-enhanced print; and (b) detecting the Raman-enhanced print using a Raman spectroscopic method.
