A seal body includes a flange that supports a lip configured to make sliding contact with a fixed surface. The flange includes a groove for receiving a garter spring on one face, and inwardly and outwardly facing conical surfaces on the opposite surface, the conical surfaces defining a lip where they meet. The ratio of the thickness of the portion of the lip located to one side of a plane that includes an edge of the groove to the thickness of the portion of the lip on the other side of the plane is about 44%.

Radial fluid seal

A seal assembly is for sealing between a shaft and a body rotatable about an axis extending through the shaft and includes an annular elastomeric sealing member disposeable within the body bore and coupleable with the shaft. The sealing member has a centerline coaxial with the shaft axis and a radially-outwardly extending, generally annular lip sealingly engageable with an inner circumferential surface of the bore or of a member disposed within the bore so as to define a seal interface. The sealing lip is configured to displace fluid within the sealing interface generally axially out of the interface when the hub rotates about the shaft. Preferably, the sealing member is coupled with an inner casing and disposed within an outer casing, the seal lip sealing against the outer casing inner surface, and a second sealing lip is coupled with the outer casing and seals against the inner casing outer surface.

Outwardly sealing pumping seal assembly

A unitized radial fluid seal includes a shell having a first elastomeric seal body affixed thereto and defining a primary seal lip. A sleeve includes a substantially cylindrical, axially-extending sealing flange and a protective flange extending substantially radially from the axially-extending sealing flange. A spring radially urges the primary seal lip into sealing contact with a sealing surface of the axially-extending sealing flange. A second elastomeric seal body is affixed to the sleeve and includes a resiliently-elastic angled lip extending from a terminal end of the axially-extending sealing flange opposite of the radially-extending protective flange. The sealing surface and an axially-outward facing surface of the angled lip define an angle (&#x3b1;) that is between about 130-170&#xb0;. The primary seal lip is axially retained between the angled lip and the radially-extending protective flange.

Unitized radial fluid seal

A fluid seal assembly is disposable between an outer surface, i.e. engine block or any other part that requires application of the assembly and a rotatable member, such as, for example a shaft, wherein the assembly circumscribes the shaft and lubricates the shaft and the same rotates around the axis. The assembly includes at least three members: a casing unit, a sealing ring unit, and a liner. The assembly eliminates problems associated with prior art designs such as static leakage of oil, and clogging up the spirals with carbonized oil that negatively impact lifecycle of the fluid seals.

Fluid seal assembly

A heavy duty composite oil seal with an outer cup and a plastic inner cup. The outer cup includes a major diameter mounting flange portion terminating in a curl, a minor diameter wear sleeve portion, and a transition portion joining the major and minor diameter portions. There is an elastomeric seal body and an embedded stiffener, with the elastomeric seal body having a sealing lip contacting the inner axial surface of the wear sleeve portion. There is a plastic inner cup member with an axial flange substantially co-extensive with the mounting flange and entrapped along the major diameter flange portion between the curl portion and the transition portion of the outer cup. The inner cup also has a radially extending flange that engages a radial portion of the elastomeric seal body. The plastic inner cup member has a continuous curvilinear inner surface.

Seal with plastic inner cup

A sealing device is provided for sealing a space between a hub and a spindle pivotally connected by a bearing, the hub being coaxially mounted on the spindle and extending in an axial direction and the bearing having an inner ring. The sealing device includes a radial shaft seal including a shell portion having an outer static sealing surface disposeable against the hub and a hinge portion having a radial sealing lip. A sleeve member includes an inner static sealing surface disposeable against the spindle, a running surface contactable by the sealing lip and a sleeve portion. The sleeve portion extends in the axial direction beyond a side surface of the bearing inner ring and is disposeable about a shoulder diameter of the bearing inner ring.

Sealing device for a hub and a bearing assembly including the sealing device

A heavy duty composite oil seal with an outer cup and a plastic inner cup. The outer cup includes a major diameter mounting flange portion terminating in a curl, a minor diameter wear sleeve portion, and a transition portion joining the major and minor diameter portions. There is an elastomeric seal body and an embedded stiffener, with the elastomeric seal body having a sealing lip contacting the inner axial surface of the wear sleeve portion. There is a plastic inner cup member with an axial flange substantially co-extensive with the mounting flange and entrapped along the major diameter flange portion between the curl portion and the transition portion of the outer cup. The inner cup also has a radially extending flange that engages a radial portion of the elastomeric seal body. The plastic inner cup member has plural, evenly spaced diagonal braces extending between and joining the axial flange and the radial flange of the inner cup.

A seal assembly having a seal bumper wall with a series of pyramid shaped formations lying on the bumper wall. The formations cause their apex portion to wear down rapidly in use, while the remainder of the pyramids remain and act as slingers and/or produce a convection effect to reduce temperature along the sealed area. In another embodiment, there are two each pyramid shaped formations located on each of several thrust bumpers, which are held in position by a retainer.
