Absorbent article

An absorbent core layer () for absorbing and retaining body exudate includes a first longitudinally directed end region (), a second opposing longitudinally directed end region (), and a middle region () positioned between the end regions. The middle region () includes a first embossing pattern and has a first thickness. The first longitudinally directed end region () and second opposing longitudinally directed end region () each include a second embossing pattern different from the first embossing pattern, and also having apertures. The end regions () each have a second thickness, the second thickness being less than the first thickness.

An absorbent article includes a topsheet layer, backsheet layer, and a subjacent layer between the topsheet layer and backsheet layer. A compressible fluid management layer is positioned between the topsheet layer and subjacent layer. The compressible fluid management layer has an inner edge that defines an annular opening, with the annular opening extending entirely through the compressible fluid management layer. The compressible fluid management layer includes a dimension which is smaller than a dimension of the subjacent layer. The absorbent article further includes a first embossed feature positioned at least at portions, within the annular opening, and adjacent to the compressible fluid management layer inner edge, shaped to conform to the shape of the inner edge. The first embossed feature is positioned within the topsheet layer and the subjacent layer. The article also includes a second embossed feature positioned lateral to compressible fluid management layer peripheral edges.

The present application discloses and claims a three-dimensional sheet material and an absorbent article which utilizes the sheet material within the article. The three-dimensional sheet material is designed to minimize the contact area on one side of the material thereby making it useful for various applications including a body contacting top sheet or liner material.

A rolled absorbent personal care article includes a longitudinal direction, a transverse direction and a depth direction. The absorbent article component, absorbent article extension component, wrapper sheet component each have a longitudinal, transverse, and depth direction. Each of the absorbent article component and absorbent article extension component includes at least a topsheet layer and a backsheet layer, wherein the backsheet layer includes a garment-facing surface on which is situated a garment adhesive. The absorbent article component and the absorbent article extension component each include a peripheral edge, with the components being attached to the wrapper sheet component with the garment adhesive, such that the peripheral edges are adjacent one another. The absorbent article component and the absorbent article extension component are in a rolled configuration within the wrapper sheet component and secured in the rolled configuration.

Rolled absorbent personal care articles and methods of making same

An absorbent article (-) is capable of providing comfort to the wearer and can maintain dryness and inhibit the leakage of fluid. The absorbent article (-) includes a multi-layered topsheet (). The multi-layered topsheet () includes a first topsheet layer () having an opening () and a second topsheet layer () disposed under the first topsheet layer (). The first topsheet layer () and the second topsheet layer () are joined together by a seal that, in one embodiment, generally corresponds with the shape of the opening (). Further, a first sub-topsheet layer () is situated beneath the multi-layered topsheet () and has an opening () that is smaller than the first topsheet layer opening (). This combination of openings () situated one below the other provides for an absorbent article (-) that can maintain a high level of dryness and its ability to conform to the wearer's body, and inhibit the leakage of bodily fluids due to a funnel-like effect.

Absorbent article with an apertured multi-layered topsheet

An absorbent article () capable of inhibiting leakage of a fluid insult generally extends in a plane defined by a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction. The absorbent article () contains fluid-shrinkable members (), a topsheet (), and a base pad () that includes a baffle () and an absorbent core () positioned between the topsheet () and the baffle (). The topsheet () extends in the longitudinal direction to define a distal end () and an opposing proximal end (). At least a portion of the proximal end () remains generally unbonded to the baffle (). The fluid-shrinkable members () extend in the longitudinal direction of the absorbent article () so that at least a portion of the fluid-shrinkable members () are located adjacent to the proximal end () of the topsheet (). Thus, when the fluid-shrinkable members () contract upon contacting a fluid insult, the proximal end () of the topsheet () can raise outwardly from the plane of the absorbent article (). The raised area creates a barrier to the leakage of fluids from the center of the absorbent article () towards its end. Contraction of the fluid-shrinkable members can also cause an outer region of the topsheet () to raise outwardly from the plane of the absorbent article () to create a barrier to the leakage of fluid from the center of the absorbent article () towards the side edge. Because such barriers are generally created only after contact with a fluid insult, their effectiveness is not diminished through use of the article prior to the insult.

Absorbent article having enhanced leakage protection

An absorbent article is provided. The article includes at least one additional layer non-integral with the absorbent layer, and positioned upon the absorbent layer. The additional layer includes at least first and second discrete portions positioned along the longitudinal direction. The at least first and second discrete portions are spaced apart from each other along the longitudinal direction. The portions are constructed of the same base sheet material and the first portion at least partially defines an opening therein with an opening inner edge. The second portion is of a shape mated to fit along its periphery edge, at least partially within the opening. The second portion is of a shape complementary with the opening shape. Edges of the first and second portion are complementary, the inner edge of the first portion being complementary with the periphery edge of the second portion.
