An example method for grouping antennas for RF exposure compliance by a processing system generally includes determining RF exposure distributions per transmit antenna configuration for a plurality of transmit antennas and assigning the plurality of transmit antennas to a plurality of antenna groups based on the RF exposure distributions.

Time-averaged radio frequency (RF) exposure per antenna group

In certain aspects, a method for wireless communication includes transmitting a first transmission with a first transmitter operable according to a first radio technology, and transmitting a second transmission with a second transmitter after completion of the first transmission, the second transmitter operable according to a second radio technology. The method may also include delaying transmission of the second transmission by a predetermined wait time after completion of the first transmission if the first radio technology is a radio frequency (RF) exposure time-averaged technology and the second radio technology is a non-time-averaged RF exposure technology. The method may also include transmitting the second transmission with a limited peak power for a predetermined time period for at least a portion of the second transmission if the first radio technology is a non-time-averaged RF exposure technology and the second radio technology is a time-averaged RF exposure technology.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for operating a wireless communication device pursuant to radio frequency (RF) exposure compliance. A method that may be performed by a wireless device includes determining a base reserve and a dynamic reserve for each of a plurality of radios; and transmitting a signal with at least one of the radios at a transmit power determined based at least in part on one or more maximum time-averaged RF exposure limits associated with each of the radios and on the base reserve and the dynamic reserve for each of the radios.

Energy allocation among multiple radios for radio frequency (RF) exposure compliance

Techniques and apparatus for determining a transmit power limit based on sensor spatial coverage. A method that may be performed by a wireless communication device includes selecting a beam for transmission of a signal, determining a transmit power limit based at least in part on an overlap between the selected beam and a coverage zone of a sensor, and transmitting the signal via the beam at a transmit power based at least in part on the determined transmit power limit.

In some transmission scenarios, the device state information may be applied in real time to account for a lower mmWave RF exposure contribution to the total RF exposure, thereby providing for potentially increased transmission power from the sub-6 GHz radio.

Simultaneous primary and secondary radio frequency link transmissions are described. The transmissions are restricted to within radio frequency exposure limits. A method is described that includes determining an unused power margin between an average transmit power of a primary radio and the transmit power limit. A combination of a portion of the unused power margin and a secondary reserve transmit power are allocated to the secondary radio. The average transmit power of the secondary radio is restricted to within the combination.

In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may identify an available energy for uplink transmission of a plurality of communication links of the UE. The UE may configure, from the available energy, a first set of energy allocations for the plurality of communication links. The UE may configure a second set of energy allocations for one or more communication links of the plurality of communication links, wherein the second set of energy allocations are allocated from a remainder of the available energy after the first set of energy allocations are allocated. Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may allocate a first amount of power to one or more radios for a time window based on radio frequency (RF) exposure information and one or more other criteria. The UE may allocate a second amount of power to a selected channel or communication utilized by at least one radio of the one or more radios for one or more time frames within the time window based on the first amount of power allocated to the at least one radio for the time window. Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. A user equipment (UE) may configure a first initial set of maximum transmit powers for a first subscriber module. The UE may configure, independently of the configuration of the first maximum transmit power, a second maximum transmit power associated with the second connection. Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for exception-robust time-averaged radio frequency (RF) exposure compliance continuity. A method that may be performed by a user equipment (UE) generally includes transmitting a first signal at a first transmission power based on time-averaged RF exposure measurements over a time window and storing RF exposure information associated with the time window. The method may also include detecting that an exception event associated with the UE occurred and transmitting a second signal at a second transmission power based at least in part on the stored RF exposure information in response to the detection of the event.

Exception-robust time-averaged radio frequency exposure compliance continuity

In certain aspects, a method implemented in a wireless device includes determining a specific absorption rate (SAR) distribution for a first wireless communication technology, determining a power density (PD) distribution for a second wireless communication technology, and combining the SAR distribution and the PD distribution to generate a combined RF exposure distribution. The method also includes determining at least one first maximum allowable power level and at least one second maximum allowable power level for a future time slot based on the combined RF exposure distribution, setting at least one transmission power limit for a first transmitter in the future time slot based on the at least one first maximum allowable power level, and setting at least one transmission power limit for a second transmitter in the future time slot based on the at least one second maximum allowable power level.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for operating a wireless communication device pursuant to radio frequency (RF) exposure with antenna grouping. An example method of wireless communication by a user equipment generally includes accessing a stored backoff factor associated with an antenna group among a plurality of antenna groups. The method also includes transmitting, from at least one transmit antenna in the antenna group, a signal at a transmission power level based on the backoff factor in compliance with an RF exposure requirement.

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, an apparatus may determine a time-averaged power limit of a set of antennas. The apparatus may modify an antenna switching configuration based at least in part on the time-averaged power limit. The apparatus may transmit a signal using an antenna, from the set of antennas, associated with the modified antenna switching configuration, wherein the antenna is associated with a higher power limit than one or more other antennas.
