Embodiments relate to a computer for transmitting data in a network. The computer includes at least one data transmission port configured to be connected to at least one storage device via a plurality of paths of a network. The computer further includes a processor configured to detect recurring intermittent errors in one or more paths of the plurality of paths and to disable access to the one or more paths based on detecting the recurring intermittent errors.

In accordance with a computer program product, apparatus and a method there is provided a redundant network wherein a host computer operates with a plurality of storage devices by monitoring conditions of the multipath storage network and controlling a storage multipath device driver in conjunction with an associated storage multipath device input/output (I/O) pending queue to increase I/O throughput to a storage device driver, such as a disk device driver, when I/O demand increases, and to decrease I/O throughput to the storage device driver in the event of an I/O error condition.

A process, apparatus, and system are disclosed for automatically backing up and restoring a system configuration during the installation of new software on a software device. The apparatus may be embodied as a software installation module having a pre-removal module and a post-installation module. The pre-removal and post-removal procedures are embedded within a systems packaging files so that they may be automatically executed during the installation procedures for installing the new software. The apparatus may also include a recovery module configured to perform procedures that are similar to, but potentially more thorough than the procedures implemented by the post-installation procedure. Specifically, the apparatus may be incorporated in a server within a storage area network (SAN) and configured to operate with a plurality of physical disk drives also connected to the storage area network (SAN).

A method and apparatus for providing multi-path I/O in non-concurrent clustering environment is disclosed. Shared non-concurrent access to logical volumes through multiple paths is provided by using SCSI-3 persistent reserve commands. Open options of the operating system are mapped to SCSI persistent reserve commands to allow all of the multiple paths to register with the logical unit number of the shared storage system and to allow the second of the multiple paths to access the logical unit number of the shared storage system after obtaining a persistent reservation with the shared storage system.

Method and apparatus for providing multi-path I/O in non-concurrent clustering environment using SCSI-3 persistent reserve

A method and system for path management of data processing in an environment which includes a plurality of hosts running multiple operating systems is disclosed. The method and system includes providing a portable path management code and providing a plurality of control modules. Each of the control modules has an area which can only be accessed by the portable path management code. The method and system also include providing an interface to at least one device driver from the portable management code to allow the portable management code to control access to plurality of paths to a plurality of storage subsystems by the at least one device driver. The method and system in accordance with the present invention can provide path load balancing and fail over for a plurality of paths to a plurality of storage subsystems. The path management code is portable and platform independent so that the functionality can be ported easily to each operating system in the multiple system environment.
