A collision avoidance method for a water-based vessel, including: obtaining real time data relating to the path of two or more vessels; identifying a collision risk between the two or more vessels; determining if the collision risk is above a predetermined threshold, wherein when the collision risk is above the predetermined threshold, determining one or more collision avoidance manoeuvres on the basis of historical navigational data which corresponds to the real-time data; providing the one or more collision avoidance manoeuvres to an operator of the one or more vessels.

Methods and systems automatically detect, classify and/or mitigate sensor errors using partial qualitative and quantitative knowledge of the subsystems. In various examples, sensor fault detection is performed with a custom designed representation scheme covering causality, correlation, system of equality and inequalities, and an associated logic. The logic is described by a set of algorithmic steps to iteratively assign trustworthiness level of sensors. Sensor fault classification is performed by combining mathematical and statistical techniques that can be utilized to expose bias, drift, multiplicative calibration error, precision degradation and spike error. Sensor fault mitigation is also performed on identified bias, drift, multiplicative calibration error, precision degradation and spike error.

Methods and systems for detecting, classifying and/or mitigating sensor error

The invention is a method that combines the following components: a high pass filter designed to have sufficiently small phase delay and roll-off value in transition band as well as sufficiently good attenuation; a distortion detection and reconstruction introduced by the application of the high pass filter by extraction the significant frequency components in relevant frequency band; a signal compensation that reshapes the output of the high pass filter by matching the filter's phase delay and attenuation characteristics so as to approximate low frequency component extraction that would be produced by an ideal filter (very sharp frequency transition and no delay); a time-domain detection and correction method that addresses special circumstances under which the compensation would be inaccurate to achieve real-time estimate in normal circumstances, and a time-domain correction method during and immediately after sudden changes in composite signal (spike) is detected.
