An implantable heart defibrillator and a method for defibrillating a heart, employ a shock pulse generator for delivering a defibrillation shock to a heart, the delivered energy being mechanical. The shock pulse generator includes an electromechanical energy converter which generates, e.g., pressure, by means of a piezoelement, in a pressure chamber. Pressure is transmitted by a fluid in an electrode devised like a hydraulic line to a balloon-like electrode head in contact with heart tissue. The generated pressure causes the electrode head to expand and deliver a mechanical shock to the heart corresponding to the pressure.

Mechanical defibrillator and method for defibrillating a heart

Implantable medical device comprising a device for stimulating tissue contractions with adjustable stimulation intensity, whereby the stimulation intensity is set such that a stimulated event is detected after stimulation with a detector device. The detector device detects stimulated tissue contractions in a signal corresponding to the chronological curve of the electrical impedance of the tissue to be stimulated.

Implantable medical device having means for stimulating tissue

A device for identifying an event, among atrial events sensed in a heart, as an atrial depolarization includes an atrial detector which emits a first signal when an event is sensed in the atrium, and a ventricular detector which emits a second signal when an event is sensed in the ventricle. A window generator creates a time window with the first signal inside the window, and a comparator determines whether the second signal is inside or outside the window. If the second signal is outside the window, an identification signal for the atrial depolarization is emitted. In subsequent circuits in the device, an event sensed in the atrium can be indicated as e.g. atrial flutter or a crosstalk QRS. The indications can be used for controlling a heart stimulator. A corresponding method is also disclosed.

Device for identifying atrial depolarization

An inductive motion sensor (MS) connectable to a subject (16), the motion sensor having a coil (4) and a magnet member (3) movable relative to the coil (4). The magnet member (3) has at least four magnetic poles, whereby the number of south poles (S) is equal to the number of north poles (N). The pole strength of the magnetic poles is dimensioned and the magnetic poles are located on the magnet member (3) such that the magnet member (3) is situated in a neutral equilibrium position in a uniform magnetic field with respect to the forces exerted on the magnetic poles by the magnetic field.

Inductive motion sensor

A pacemaker has a sensor for deteching inertial and/or rotational movements of a patient in whom the pacemaker is implanted. The sensor has a hollow member with at least one freely moveable member therein, the freely moveable member generating a mechanical vibration upon movement thereof within the hollow member caused by movement or rotation of the patient. A transducer generates an electrical signal corresponding to the mechanical vibrations, the electrical signal being proportional to the movement. This electrical signal is used to vary the rate at which stimulation pulses are supplied to the patient by the pacemaker.
