A method for modification of search subjects in a set of predictive search terms in which a set of search terms from a user is received and communicated to a search engine. One or more sets of predictive search terms from the search engine based on the set of search terms is received from the search engine and one or more search subjects within the one or more sets of predictive search terms is identified. A plurality of set of predictive search terms, where the one or more search subjects are displayed differently from other displayed terms is displayed and the user is presented with an option to modify the one or more search subjects. A modified search subject is received and a modified search sentence comprising the set of search terms, and one or more of the predictive search terms and the modified search subject is displayed.

Modification of search subject in predictive search sentences

A computer implemented method for modification of search subjects in a set of predictive search terms in which a set of search terms from a user is received. One or more sets of predictive search terms generated and one or more search subjects within the one or more sets of predictive search terms is identified and communicated to the user. A modified search subject is received from the user in response to presenting the use with an option to modify the one or more search subjects. Furthermore the modified search sentence comprising the set of search terms and predictive search terms or modified search terms is searched.

A system and method to allow an author of an instant message to enable and control the production of audible speech to the recipient of the message. The voice of the author of the message is characterized into parameters compatible with a formative or articulative text-to-speech engine such that upon receipt, the receiving client device can generate audible speech signals from the message text according to the characterization of the author's voice. Alternatively, the author can store samples of his or her actual voice in a server so that, upon transmission of a message by the author to a recipient, the server extracts the samples needed only to synthesize the words in the text message, and delivers those to the receiving client device so that they are used by a client-side concatenative text-to-speech engine to generate audible speech signals having a close likeness to the actual voice of the author.

A mechanism for providing efficient use of peer cache space in large scale file distributions. A peer computer receives a download plan for a requested file. The download plan specifies a number of peer servers where the file is stored, a minimum number of peer servers required to store the file, and a saturation level for the file in the zone. When the peer computer downloads the file from one or more peer servers listed in the download plan, the peer computer determines whether the file is required to be cached at the peer computer by comparing the minimum number of peer servers in the plan required to store the file against the number of peer servers listed in the plan. If the minimum number required to store the file is greater the number of peer servers listed in the plan, the peer computer caches the file.

Efficient use of peer cache space in large scale file distributions

A system, computer-implementable method, and computer-readable medium for processing a collection of work items in a data processing system. According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, an agent monitor assembles a work items list that includes a collection of work items, wherein at least one work item among the collection of work items is a work item that is unassigned to at least one agent among a collection of agents. The agent monitor assigns the at least one work item to the at least one agent. In response to determining that the at least one agent has entered into a hang state, the agent monitor releases the at least one work item from the at least one agent.

System and method for implementing database concurrency for allowing multiple agents to coordinate execution of tasks in a cluster

In a content delivery network comprising multiple servers positioned at different locations, and including clients respectively located closer to one of the servers than to others, a method distributes specified file content to respective clients. The method initially uploads the specified content to a particular server, and generates a download plan for replicating the specified content at one or more other servers in successive stages, wherein each of the other servers is designated as a target server. The clients are notified, when the specified content is available for downloading at each target server. One mode of operation, of the target servers, immediately serves the specified content to a given client from the target server; another mode notifies the given client of the amount of time remaining until the target server completes replicating the specified content.

Method for distributing file content from a selected target depot server in response to multiple client requests

A method and system for providing enhanced display capability for mobile phones and handheld devices, such as Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), when such devices are within range of external display devices equipped with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags and display data receivers. The mobile phone searches for RFID tag-equipped external display devices, and upon locating such a device sends a request to the external device for connection and configuration information. Once the connection and configuration information from the external display device is received by the mobile phone or handheld device, a process of automatic synchronization between the mobile phone and the external display device occurs. The output images of the mobile phone are then transmitted to the external display device, which includes the functionality or mechanisms to receive and regenerate the output images.

Method and system for dynamic display connectivity based on configuration information via RFID tag

The present invention provides a method, apparatus, and computer instructions for automatic e-mail response interruption based on user activity. An e-mail message having an 'interrupt' type designation is sent from an originator, and directed to one or more recipients. The receiving e-mail client filters incoming messages and determines whether an e-mail contains an interrupt designation. If an interrupt designation is found, the e-mail client automatically displays content of the interrupt e-mail and any pending actions required of the recipient in a forefront position in the user interface, such as through a popup window. This content display may be valid until the recipient has responded to or completes the pending action specified in the e-mail. The present invention also analyzes the sender-recipient relationship to determine if the sender has the authority to issue an interrupt e-mail to the particular recipient. This authority may be predicated on user settings or an external list, such as a corporate directory.

Method and apparatus for automatic e-mail response interruption based on user activity

A method is presented for employing radio frequency (RF) identifier (ID) transponder tags (RFID tags) to create a unique identifier, termed an RFID signature, for use within a data processing system with respect to a person or an object. An interrogation signal is transmitted toward a person or an object with which a set of one or more RFID tags are physically associated. A first set of RFID tag identifiers are obtained from an interrogation response signal or signals returned from the set of one or more RFID tags. A mathematical operation is performed on the first set of RFID tag identifiers to generate an RFID signature value, which is employed as an identifier for the person or the object within the data processing system with respect to a transaction that is performed by the data processing system on behalf of the person or the object.

A method of determining a number of connections to initially utilize for a download of a target data file from a set of one or more servers includes determining a maximum number of initial connections based at least in part upon a number of servers available to serve a target data file to be downloaded, determining a size of the target data file, and determining the number of initial connections to utilize for a download of the target data file. The later determination is based at least in part upon the maximum number of initial connections, the size of the target data file, and a chunk size of one or more chunks into which the target data file is to be decomposed.

Method, system and program product for determining an initial number of connections for a multi-source file download

A mechanism for multiple instant messaging (IM) sessions associated with a single user name is provided. A frontend server receives user login requests and routes the instant messaging system to a back-end server. Each login associated with a particular user name is routed to the same backend server (or IM host). Messages targeted to a recipient having a plurality of active IM sessions are broadcast to all the active sessions. Messages targeted to recipients having a single IM session are unicast.
