A method, device and computer program product for controlling the device by tracking a movement of a hand or other objects. The device receives acoustic signals. At least a portion of the received signals are transformed into two-dimensional sinusoids whose frequencies are proportional to an angle-of-arrival (AoA) and a propagation distance of the reflected signals. An AoA-distance profile is derived based on signals received from the object by evaluating frequencies of the two-dimensional sinusoids. Then, an AoA-distance pair is derived from the AoA-distance profile. A current location of the object is determined based on the estimated AoA-distance pair. The device then performs a command in response to detecting that the user moved to perform the command based on prior and current locations of the object.

Controlling a device by tracking movement of hand using acoustic signals

A method for multi-dimensional impact detection and diagnosis of networks. The methods and systems dynamically explore only those network feature combinations that are likely to have problems by using a summary structure Sketch, for example. The method and systems capture fine-grained anomalies at a coarse level which allows for on-demand zoom into the finer-grained levels for further analysis.

Multi-dimensional impact detect and diagnosis in cellular networks

A method, system and computer program product for controlling a device (e.g., smartphone) by tracking a movement of a target (e.g., finger). A channel impulse response which characterizes signal traversal paths with different delays is estimated. Channel tap(s) corresponding to the target are then selected. The phase change of the selected channel taps is tracked based on the estimated channel impulse response to estimate a distance change of the target from the device. An estimate of an absolute distance between the device and the target is estimated based on the estimated channel impulse response. A more accurate absolute distance between the device and the target is calculated by combining the estimated absolute distance and the estimated distance change. The position of the target is then tracked based on a distance to different landmarks (e.g., microphones) on the device using the more accurate absolute distance and the estimated distance change.

Controlling a device by tracking the movement of a finger

A method, system and computer program product for tracking movement of an object, such as a hand. Speakers of a device to be controlled transmit frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) audio signals. These signals are reflected by the object and received by the microphones at the controlled device. The received and transmitted audio signals are mixed. A fast Fourier transform (FFT) is then performed on the mixed audio signals. One or more peak frequencies in the frequency domain of the FFT mixed audio signals are selected and used to estimate the distance between the object and the speakers of the controlled device. Furthermore, the velocity of the object is estimated. The coordinates of the object are then computed using the estimated distance between the object and the speakers and microphones of the controlled device and the estimated velocity of the object.

Device-free tracking system that accurately tracks hand movement

Communication networks go through frequent upgrades, whereby access point (AP) devices that serve network client devices are brought offline to effectuate the upgrade. Concurrently upgrading too many AP devices within a given geographic area can lead to coverage holes where no service is available, congestion where data cannot be sufficiently communicated, or other service degradation. On the other hand, upgrading too few AP devices within the area can result in a network-wide upgrade time that is too great. An architecture is presented that can efficiently generate a schedule for upgrading AP devices of a communication network.

An approach for change roll out in wireless networks that utilizes a diverse set of features, such as software/hardware configuration, radio parameters, user population, mobility patterns, network topology and automatically identifies the test locations that would improve the predictability between the performance impacts during testing and network-wide deployment. Through automated and effective analysis of a wide variety of features, the approach for change roll out in wireless networks reflects the impacts observed during testing and predicts the performance of the post-test wide-scale deployment.

A method, system and computer program product for tracking a mobile device. A reference position of the mobile device and a frequency offset between the mobile device and another device are estimated. Samples are then fetched at various frequencies from the receivers. The fetched signals are mixed with a pseudo transmitted signal. A relative distance between the mobile device and the other device is computed based on a change in frequency of the mixed signal at a current location, a velocity of the mobile device and the estimated frequency offset. An absolute distance between the mobile device and the other device is determined using the reference position and the computed relative distance. A location of the mobile device is then determined based on the mobile device's velocity and the determined absolute difference.

Accurately tracking a mobile device to effectively enable mobile device to control another device

A method for profiling network traffic of a network. The method includes capturing packets based at least on a common source IP address shared by each of the packets, where said each packet is assigned a source timestamp by a source of said each packet and further assigned a capture timestamp by a packet capturing device, identifying a first portion of the packets as a first flow and a second portion of the packets as a second flow, extracting a first monotonic timestamp-pair (MTSP) sequence and a second MTSP sequence from the first flow and the second flow, respectively, comparing the first MTSP sequence and the second MTSP sequence to generate a result, and determining, based on the result, whether the first flow and the second flow are generated by a single host of the network.

Method, system and non-transitory computer readable medium for profiling network traffic of a network

A method, system and computer program product for reducing network delay in video conferencing using random tree pushing. A plurality of nodes is randomly selected as next hop forwarders for a piece of content by a source who generates a video stream. Additional next hop forwarders are added to the randomly selected plurality of nodes to form a set of next hop forwarders until a total upload bandwidth of all next hop forwarders is no less than a bandwidth required to deliver the video stream to a set of receivers. The set of receivers in a video session is partitioned and each of the set of receivers is assigned to one of the set of next hop forwarders for forwarding the video stream to an assigned receiver either directly or through a multi-hop path.

Efficiently distributing video content using a combination of a peer-to-peer network and a content distribution network

Identifying IP traffic from multiple hosts behind a network address translation device

A method, system and computer program product for efficiently distributing video content. A peer-to-peer network and a content distribution network are used in combination to distribute video content. A content distribution network relies on servers distributed across the Internet to achieve high quality content delivery at a high cost. A peer-to-peer network distributes content among peers without incurring server side cost but may experience poor performance. The peer-to-peer network and the content distribution network are leveraged in a manner that achieves high content delivery and low cost by allowing the peer-to-peer network to serve as much content as possible while using the content distribution network to bootstrap the content in the peer-to-peer network and using it as a fallback whenever the peer-to-peer network has insufficient bandwidth, insufficient quality or when the missing piece of video content in the video buffer of the client device has an immediate deadline.

Disclosed is a method for determining the placement of ITAPs in wireless neighborhood networks. The method disclosed provides for efficient integration of multi-hop wireless networks with the Internet by placing ITAPs at strategic locations. Initially the method provides for the formulation of the ITAP placement problem under three wireless models. For each model, methods are developed to efficiently place ITAPs in the networks. The methods aim to minimize the number of required ITAPs while guaranteeing users' bandwidth requirements. Next, a fault tolerance version of the placement method is presented that provides bandwidth guarantees in the presence of failures. Finally the methods are extended to take into account variable traffic demands by developing an approximation algorithm to simultaneously optimize ITAP placement based on demands over multiple periods.

Method for determining placement of internet taps in wireless neighborhood networks

A system and method provides an electronic content to a vehicle from access point(s) within a network using a controller. The controller divides the electronic content into one or more files wherein each file contains at least one packet, and generates two or more random linear combinations of the packets within each file. For each file, each random linear combination of the packets is replicated to a different access point within the network. The electronic content is provided to the vehicle using at least one of the different access points. The controller can also determine a set of nearest trajectories for the vehicle in a location database that match a recent location history for the vehicle. For each determined nearest trajectory, one or more mobility trajectories are determined for the vehicle, and a set of access points are determined that correspond to the determined mobility trajectories for the vehicle.

Vehicular content distribution

A method and system for resilient routing reconfiguration, which provides provably congestion-free rerouting under a large number of failure scenarios and achieves efficiency and flexibility in accommodating different performance requirements, is disclosed. The method of embodiments comprises an offline precomputation phase and an online reconfiguration phase. Embodiments of the present invention also provide a number of useful functionalities, including (i) coping with traffic variations, (ii) supporting realistic failure scenarios, (iii) accommodating prioritized traffic with different protection levels, and (iv) balancing the trade-off between performance and resilience.
