In some implementations, an optical assembly includes a substrate that includes a thermally conductive core, an IC driver chip that is disposed on a first surface of the substrate, and a VCSEL device that includes an electrically insulated surface that is disposed on the thermally conductive core of the substrate within a cavity formed in the second surface of the substrate. The VCSEL device includes a cathode contact disposed on a surface of the VCSEL device and an anode contact disposed on the surface of the VCSEL device. The VCSEL device includes a plurality of emitters and a microlens component that is disposed over the plurality of emitters on the surface of the VCSEL device.

A shutdown circuit may include a filter, for receiving a laser trigger signal for a laser emitter, that is configured to output a filtered signal. The shutdown circuit may include a logic gate configured to receive the filtered signal and at least one of a first signal based on a signal from a photodiode or a second signal based on a signal from a conductive path. The shutdown circuit may include a flip-flop configured to receive an output of the logic gate and to output an enablement signal that is based on the output of the logic gate, and a driver circuit for a switch configured to control current flow to the laser emitter. The driver circuit may be configured to receive the enablement signal and the laser trigger signal and to output the laser trigger signal based on whether the enablement signal is a first or a second voltage.

A charged inductive laser driver may be configured to provide a pre-emphasized current to a first laser load and a second laser load, wherein the pre-emphasized current is configured to achieve a square pulse as a combined output of the first laser load and the second laser load.

In some implementations, a driver circuit may include a source to provide an electrical input and an array of optical emitters arranged in one or more rows and one or more columns. The array of optical emitters may include an optical emitter associated with a row of the one or more rows and a column of the one or more columns. The driver circuit may include a first switch having an open state and a closed state and a capacitive element connected to the row. The first switch in the closed state may cause charging of the capacitive element. The driver circuit may include a second switch having an open state and a closed state. The second switch in the closed state may select the column, and may cause discharging of the capacitive element through the row and the column to provide an electrical pulse to the optical emitter.

A driver circuit may include an optical emitter. The driver circuit may include a first switch that, in a closed state, is to cause charging of an inductive element, and when transitioning from the closed state to an open state is to cause discharging of the inductive element to charge a capacitive element. The driver circuit may include a second switch that in a closed state is to cause discharging of the capacitive element to provide an electrical pulse to the optical emitter. The driver circuit may include a signal generator configured to generate a first signal for controlling the open state and the closed state of the first switch, and a pulse shortening element configured to shorten a pulse width of the first signal to generate a second signal for controlling the open state and the closed state of the second switch.

A die attachment material may include an ultra-violet (UV) curable resin and silver particles to attach a chip to a submount, where the silver particles are positioned within the UV curable resin. A method may include heating the die attachment material to obtain the UV curable resin on sintered silver particles, where at least a portion of the die attachment material is position between a chip and a submount. The method may further include irradiating, with UV light, the UV curable resin to obtain a polymer on the sintered silver particles. The polymer may form a layer on the sintered silver particles.

An optical chip may include a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) structure. The optical chip may include a capacitor over at least a portion of an active layer of the VCSEL structure that is outside of an active region of the VCSEL structure. The capacitor may include a first metal layer over the portion of the active layer, a dielectric layer on the first metal layer, and a second metal layer on the dielectric layer. The optical chip may include an isolation region between a substrate of the VCSEL and a portion of the capacitor outside of the VCSEL.

In some implementations, an electrical drive circuit may include a first optical load terminal to receive an anode of a first optical load. The electrical drive circuit may include a junction section that includes a first electrical junction and a second optical load terminal to receive a cathode of the first optical load and an anode of a second optical load. The electrical drive circuit may include a third optical load terminal to receive a cathode of the second optical load; a first switch connected between the third optical load terminal and a common ground; a coupling capacitor connected between the first electrical junction and a second electrical junction; a second switch connected between the second electrical junction and the common ground; and an inductor connected from a second branch of the second electrical junction and between the second electrical junction and the common ground.

An optical device may include a substrate including a conductive core, a first layer stack on a first surface of the conductive core, a conductor-filled trench extending through the first layer stack to the conductive core such that the conductor-filled trench is on the first surface of the conductive core, and a second layer stack on a second surface of the conductive core. The optical device may include a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) chip above the conductor-filled trench. The VCSEL chip may include an array of VCSELs. A size of the conductor-filled trench may match a size of the VCSEL chip, match a size of an emission region of the array of VCSELs, or be greater than the size of the emission region of the array of VCSELs and less than the size of the VCSEL chip.

In some implementations, an electrical drive circuit may generate a rectangular optical pulse using cathode pre-charge and cathode-pull compensation. The electrical drive circuit may include an anode and a cathode to connect an optical load, a switch, a first source connected between the anode and a ground, a rectifier connected between the cathode and the switch, a capacitor connected in parallel with the rectifier, a second source connected to the ground, and an inductor connected between the switch and the second source. In some implementations, when the switch is closed and the optical load is connected, a first current is provided to the optical load through the first source, the rectifier, and the switch, and a second current is provided to the optical load through the first source, the capacitor, and the switch, where a rise time of the first current complements a fall time of the second current.

In some implementations, the first dielectric coating and the second dielectric coating have thicknesses below sixty micrometers and respective thermal resistances under fifteen degrees Celsius per watt. In some implementations, one or more electrical currents flowing vertically across a dielectric coating have a low parasitic inductance based on the thickness of the dielectric coating, and the metal core may dissipate heat flowing across the dielectric coating and into the metal core.

An optical device may drive a compensation section of a multi-section optical load to emit a compensation optical pulse by providing, for a first time interval, a compensation electrical pulse to the compensation section. The optical device may drive a main section of the multi-section optical load to emit a main optical pulse by generating, for a second time interval, a main electrical pulse, wherein at least a portion of the first time interval overlaps with the second time interval. The optical device may emit a combined optical pulse, wherein the combined optical pulse includes the compensation optical pulse and the main optical pulse, and wherein the combined optical pulse has a shorter rise time than the main optical pulse.

A driver circuit may include a source, a first circuit path, and a second circuit path. The a first circuit path may be connected to the source and include a first anode pad, a first set of connecting elements to connect the first anode pad to an anode of an optical load, a second anode pad that is separate from the first anode pad, a second set of connecting elements to connect the anode of the optical load to the second anode pad, and a switch. The switch being in a closed state causes current to charge the first set of connecting elements and the second set of connecting elements through the first circuit path. The switch transitioning from the closed state to the open state causes the first set of connecting elements to discharge current through the second circuit path to provide an electrical pulse to the optical load.

An electrical drive circuit may charge one or more inductive elements, where the electrical drive circuit includes the one or more inductive elements and a capacitive element in series between the one or more inductive elements and the optical load, and where the electrical drive circuit is connected to one or more sources. The electrical drive circuit may generate, after the charging and for a first time interval, a main electrical pulse. The electrical drive circuit may discharge, after the charging and for a second time interval, the one or more inductive elements to provide a compensation electrical pulse, where at least a portion of the second time interval overlaps with the first time interval. The electrical drive circuit may combine the main electrical pulse and the compensation electrical pulse into a combined electrical pulse. The electrical drive circuit may provide the combined electrical pulse to the optical load.
