The present application describes a method and apparatus for managing a service in a service layer. In particular, a method describes a computer readable storage medium including instructions for managing a service in a service layer where the instructions are executed by a processor. The executed instructions cause the processor to receive a request to manage, via a service enabler function of the service layer, a change of state of the service including adding, removing, activating, or deactivating the service. The request may include a service description. The executed instructions also cause the processor to evaluate, via the service enabler function, the service description comprising identifiers of one or more services to manage. The executed instructions further cause the processor to identify one or more service capabilities in the service layer to assist in managing the one or more services identified in the service description. A request may be sent and/or may instruct the one or more service capabilities to perform the change of state of the one or more services identified in the service description.

Service enabler function

An M2M Service Layer is expanded to access the services of third parties and exchange data with these third parties. The M2M Service Layer is then able to act as a proxy between M2M Devices and the third party services. The M2M Service Layer is able to present a single/consistent interface, or API, to the M2M Device and hide the details of the third party service provider from the M2M Device.

Systems and methods for enabling access to third party services via a service layer

Methods, devices, and systems for migration or sharing of existing M2M service layer sessions are disclosed. In one embodiment, a Session Migration and Sharing Function (SMSF) performs the migration or sharing of a M2M service layer session. Various forms of service layer session context may be used to enable the migration and sharing of M2M service layer sessions.

Systems and methods for service layer session migration and sharing

An image coding mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism includes determining a region of interest in an image. The image is partitioned into a plurality of blocks. A transform is applied to the blocks to obtain a plurality of coefficients. The coefficients are assigned into quality layers of decreasing priority. Each subsequent layer includes data to incrementally increase quality of a reconstructed image. Region of interest coefficients are positioned in one or more image data packets by quality layer in order of decreasing priority. Remaining coefficients are positioned in the image data packets with a lower priority than the region of interest coefficients. The remaining coefficients are positioned by quality layer in order of decreasing priority. The image data packets are stored and transmitted over a network.

User interest based packetization

A lightweight and extensible information model for machine-to-machine systems is disclosed. A service layer information management architecture uses three categories of atomic objects, subjects, actions, and descriptions. Information for use within the model is built using the atomic information objects. Application programming interfaces are used to perform operations and information processing by different nodes. Common service functions are used in the model as instances of a generic common service information model.

Lightweight IoT information model

A method for communicating a data packet, the method includes receiving a data packet that supports a packet wash operation. The method determines whether the data packet can be forwarded along a network path towards a destination node without any modification. If the data packet cannot be forwarded along the network path towards the destination node without modification, the method determines whether conditions are met for performing the packet wash operation on the data packet. If the conditions are met, the packet wash operation is performed to generate a washed data packet. The packet wash operation generates the washed data packet by modifying a size of a payload of the data packet based on a packet wash specification that associates attributes to a plurality of data payload portions of the payload of the data packet. The washed data packet is forwarded along the network path towards the destination node.

Method and apparatus for packet wash in networks

An M2M Interest Function may receive requests from users to publish the users' personal interests in particular data identify relationships and patterns in the data. Associated data may then be stored in a single best location for such data based on various criteria rather than on separate M2M Gateways or M2M Servers. A system and a method performed by a source node for communicating data packets in the network comprising dividing a payload for data transmission into a plurality of source chunks with each source chunk comprising a significance level; performing, according to the significance level of each of the plurality of source chunks, adaptive network coding on each source chunk to obtain a plurality of coded chunks in a plurality of coding groups, where a significance level of coded chunks in at least two of the plurality of the coding groups is different, and wherein each coding group of the plurality of coding groups comprises at least one coded chunk having the same first significance level; generating a first coded data packet comprising a header and a payload comprising the plurality of coded chunks; and transmitting the first coded data packet to a destination node.

A method performed by a network node for routing data packets is disclosed. The method includes receiving a data packet that includes an abstract destination address in a shipping specification of the data packet. The abstract destination address indicates one or more network resource requirements of a destination. The method also includes determining whether a server satisfies the one or more network resource requirements of the destination specified by the abstract destination address. The method also includes forwarding the data packet to the server according to the determination.
