The technology described in this document can be embodied in a method of using a silver-zinc rechargeable battery to power a device. The method includes drawing, in a first mode of operation of a power management circuit, a first current from the battery to power the device. The first current is selected such that a target percentage of a capacity of the battery is discharged in a predetermined time of use of the device. The method also includes switching to a second mode of operation after the target percentage of the capacity of the battery is discharged. In the second mode of operation, a second current is drawn from the battery, wherein the second current is less than the first current. The method further includes powering the device using the second current.

Dual zone discharge of rechargeable batteries

An earphone includes a loudspeaker, a microphone, a housing supporting the loudspeaker and microphone, and ear tip surrounding the housing and configured to acoustically couple both the loudspeaker and the microphone to an ear canal of a user, and to acoustically close the entrance to the user's ear canal. A processor provides output audio signals to the loudspeaker, receives input audio signals from the microphone, extracts a rate of respiration from the input audio signals, adjusts the output audio signals based on the extracted rate of respiration, and provides the adjusted output audio signals to the loudspeaker.

Earphones for measuring and entraining respiration

Aspects of the present disclosure provide a method for obtaining biological information associated with a user, comprising receiving electrical signals via a first electrode on an ear tip of an earpiece inserted in an ear of the user, receiving electrical signals via a second electrode on an external portion of the earpiece, and deriving an electrocardiogram (ECG) based on the signals received via the first electrode and the second electrode. Aspects also provide a method for determining a pulse travel time (PTT) associated with a user, comprising obtaining a proximal signal using an earpiece inserted in of the user, obtaining a distal signal using the earpiece, and deriving the PTT based on the obtained proximal signal and the obtained distal signal.

Collecting biologically-relevant information using an earpiece

An earphone includes a loudspeaker, a microphone, a housing supporting the loudspeaker and microphone, and an ear tip surrounding the housing and configured to acoustically couple both the loudspeaker and the microphone to an ear canal of a user, and to acoustically close the entrance to the user's ear canal. A processor receives input audio signals from the microphone, detects peaks having a frequency of around 1 Hz in the input audio signals, based on the detected peaks, computes an instantaneous heart rate, measures a frequency of an oscillation within the instantaneous heart rate, and based on the frequency of the oscillation, computes a rate of respiration.

Aspects of the present disclosure provide an audio product for obtaining biologically-relevant information associated with a user comprising. The audio product includes at least two electrodes, a processor, and an electroacoustic transducer coupled to the processor. The processor is configured to receive at least one signal affected by an action of the user obtained via the first electrode or the second electrode and take one or more actions based on the at least one signal. The at least one action may control another device, in an effort to provide hands-free control of the other device.

In-ear electrical potential sensor

An air adsorbing and sound absorbing structure with a first portion comprising a first material comprising an open-celled foam with an air-adsorbing material coupled to the foam, where the first portion has a first air adsorption capacity and a first density. There is a second portion fixed to or integral with the first portion, wherein the second portion comprises one or more of: a different material than the first material, a second air adsorption capacity that is different than the first air adsorption capacity, and a second density that is different than the first density.

Air adsorbing and sound absorbing structure

A waveguide for conducting sound that is generated by a loudspeaker that is acoustically coupled to the waveguide. There is a duct with an external wall, an interior opening circumscribed by the wall, and an outlet, and an air-adsorbent structure coupled to an inside of the external wall of the duct such that the air adsorbent structure lines at least a portion of the wall. The apparent volume ratio of the air adsorbent structure is at least about 1.5.

Waveguide

A three-dimensional air-adsorbing structure. The structure has a three-dimensional, unitary, skeletal, porous scaffold, air-adsorbing material particles, and one or more hydrophobic binders that couple air-adsorbing material particles to each other to form agglomerates and couples particles and agglomerates to the scaffold. The structure has structure openings in the agglomerates and structure openings between agglomerates, such structure openings being open to the outside environment. The air-adsorbing material and the agglomerates are coupled to the scaffold by creating a water-based emulsion of air-adsorbing material, agglomerates of the material, and binder, and then impregnating the scaffold with this emulsion. The emulsion is dried at least in part at a temperature below the freezing point of the emulsion.

Three-dimensional air-adsorbing structure

A three-dimensional air-adsorbing structure for use in a volume in which there is a time-varying acoustic field. The structure has a three-dimensional, unitary, skeletal, porous scaffold having scaffold openings distributed within its volume, where the scaffold openings make up at least about 50% of the volume of the scaffold, air-adsorbing material particles, and a hydrophobic binder that couples air-adsorbing material particles to each other to form agglomerates and couples particles and agglomerates to the scaffold. The structure has structure openings in the agglomerates and structure openings between agglomerates, such structure openings being open to the outside environment, wherein the cumulative volume of the structure openings that have an apparent diameter larger than about 0.01 microns as measured by mercury porosimetry is at least about 40% of the volume of the air-adsorbing structure, and the cumulative volume of the structure openings that have an apparent diameter larger than about 5 microns as measured by mercury porosimetry is at least about 15% of the volume of the air-adsorbing structure.

A loudspeaker system with an enclosure, an electro-acoustic transducer mounted in the enclosure so as to leave space inside of the enclosure that is unoccupied by the transducer, and an air-adsorbing material in the space inside of the enclosure that is unoccupied by the transducer. The air-adsorbing material includes a silicon-based zeolite with a small amount of a second metal. The mole ratio of silicon to the second metal is at least about 200 and is less than 400.
