Systems and methods are provided for using an external controller with an AR device. The system establishes, by one or more processors of the AR device, a communication with an external client device. The system overlays, by the AR device, a first AR object on a real-world environment being viewed using the AR device. The system receives interaction data from the external client device representing one or more inputs received by the external client device and, in response, modifies the first AR object by the AR device.

A system is disclosed, including a processor and a memory. The memory stores instructions that, when executed by the processor, configure the system to perform operations. Surface plane information is obtained, defining a surface plane passing through a surface location and oriented according to a surface normal. An edge is detected in an image. Virtual content is presented, having a virtual position based on an orientation of the edge and the surface plane information.

Alignment of augmented reality components with the physical world

Described herein is a messaging application that executes on a wearable augmented reality device. The messaging application facilitates the anchoring or pinning of a 3-D avatar representing another end-user. An end-user wearing the AR device facilitates messaging with the other end-user via interactions with the 3-D avatar representing the other end-user. As such, the AR device processes various sensor inputs to detect when the end-user wearing the AR device is 'targeting' the 3-D avatar, and enables an audio recording device to record an audible message for communicating to the other end-user.

Techniques for using 3-D avatars in augmented reality messaging

Systems and methods are provided for performing operations on an augmented reality (AR) device. The system accesses, by the AR device, movement data comprising inertial measurement data and camera data. The system determines three-dimensional (3D) movement of the AR device based on the movement data. The system presents, by the AR device, an AR object on a real-world environment being viewed using the AR device. The system, in response to determining the 3D movement of the AR device, modifies the AR object by the AR device.

User avatar movement control using an augmented reality eyewear device

The disclosed system establishes, by a first augmented reality (AR) device, a voice communication session between a plurality of users. The system displays, by the first AR device of a first user of the plurality of users, an avatar representing a second user of the plurality of users. The system receives, by the first AR device of a first user of the plurality of users, input from the first user that selects a display position for the avatar representing the second user within a real-world environment of the first user. The system animates the avatar representing the second user based on movement information received from a second AR device of the second user.

The system establishes, by one or more processors of an AR device, a communication with an external client device. The system causes overlay of, by the AR device, a first AR object on a real-world environment being viewed using the AR device. The system, in response to receiving the first image from the external client device, overlays the first image on the first AR object by the AR device.

An augmented reality (AR) content system is provided. The AR content system may analyze audio input obtained from a user to generate a search request. The AR content system may obtain search results in response to the search request and determine a layout by which to display the search results. The search results may be displayed in a user interface within an AR environment according to the layout. The AR content system may also analyze audio input to detect commands to perform with respect to content displayed in the user interface.

The system, in response to receiving the interaction data from the external client device, modifies the first AR object by the AR device.
