This disclosure relates to syndiotactic polymers containing units derived from propylene and units derived from Cto Calpha olefins. The polymers can be prepared is slurry or solution polymerization processes using a zirconium-containing metallocene catalyst system. The polymers have a melt flow rate as determined by ASTM D-1238 (230&#xb0; C., 2.16 kg) of from about 0.1 to about 20 g/10 min. The syndiotactic polymers are useful as viscosity index improvers.

Syndiotactic propylene polymers and lubricating oils comprising the same

This disclosure relates to a composition for use as an additive for fuels and lubricants including a reductive amination product of a vinyl terminated macromonomer (VTM) based aldehyde. Optionally aldehyde is reacted with the amino compound under condensation conditions sufficient to give an imine intermediate, and the imine intermediate is reacted under hydrogenation conditions sufficient to give the composition. The aldehyde is formed by reacting a VTM under hydroformylation conditions sufficient to form the aldehyde. A reductive amination method for making a composition for use as an additive for fuels and lubricants. The method includes reacting a VTM based aldehyde with an amino compound containing at least one &#x2014;NH&#x2014; group under condensation conditions sufficient to give an imine intermediate, and reacting the imine intermediate under hydrogenation conditions sufficient to give said composition. The aldehyde is formed by reacting a VTM under hydroformylation conditions sufficient to form the aldehyde.

Lubricant and fuel dispersants and methods of preparation thereof

Provided are ethylene propylene copolymers compositions thereof and methods for making the same. The composition may include an ethylene copolymer, comprising 40 wt % to 70 wt % of units derived from ethylene, and at least 30 wt % of units derived from at least one &#x3b1;-olefin having 3 to 20 carbon atoms. The composition can have a melting point (Tm) in &#xb0; C., as measured by DSC, that satisfies the relation: Tm&#x3e;3.4&#xd7;E&#x2212;180, where E is the weight % of units derived from ethylene in the copolymer. The composition can also have a Mw/Mn ratio of about 1.5 to about 3.5. The composition can further have a content of Group 4 metals derived from a catalyst of 25 ppm or less.

Lubricating oil compositions and method for making them

This disclosure relates to a composition for use as an additive for fuels and lubricants including an amination product of an epoxidized vinyl terminated macromonomer (VTM) and an amino compound containing at least one &#x2014;NH&#x2014; group. The epoxidized VTM is reacted with the amino compound containing at least one &#x2014;NH&#x2014; group under amination conditions sufficient to give said composition. The epoxidized VTM is formed by reacting a VTM with an epoxidizing agent under epoxidation conditions sufficient to give an epoxidized VTM. An amination method for making a composition for use as an additive for fuels and lubricants. The method comprises reacting an epoxidized VTM with an amino compound containing at least one &#x2014;NH&#x2014; group under amination conditions sufficient to give the composition. The epoxidized VTM is formed by reacting a VTM with an epoxidizing agent under epoxidation conditions sufficient to give an epoxidized VTM.

Process to produce polymers from pyridyldiamido transition metal complexes and use thereof

Provided are ethylene-based copolymers, methods of preparing the same, lubricating oil compositions including the same, methods for preparing such lubricating oil compositions, and end uses for such ethylene-based copolymers and lubricating oil compositions. The ethylene-based copolymers may include from about 35 wt. % to about 60 wt. % of units derived from ethylene and at least 1.0 wt. % of one or more alpha-olefin comonomers having 3 to 20 carbon atoms. The ethylene-based copolymers are substantially amorphous and have a polydispersity index of about 2.8 or less.

Ethylene-based copolymers, lubricating oil compositions containing the same, and methods for making them

Disclosed are rheology modifiers comprising compositionally disperse polymeric compositions and/or crystallinity disperse polymeric compositions that may be useful in modifying the rheological properties of lubrication fluids, and methods for making such compositions. The compositionally disperse polymeric composition are formed from at least two discrete compositions of ethylene copolymers. The crystallinity disperse polymeric composition are formed from ethylene copolymers having at least two discrete values of residual crystallinity.

Polymeric compositions useful as rheology modifiers and methods for making such compositions

Polymeric compositions and methods for making and using the same are provided. The polymeric composition can include a first ethylene-based copolymer and a second ethylene-based copolymer. The first ethylene-based copolymer can have a weight percent of ethylene-derived units based on a weight of the polymeric composition (E) ranging from about 35 wt % to about 52 wt % and a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of less than or equal to 130,000. The second ethylene-based copolymer can have a weight percent of ethylene-derived units based on the weight of the polymeric composition (E) ranging from about 65 wt % to about 85 wt % and a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of less than 130,000.

Ethylene based copolymer compositions as viscosity modifiers and methods for making them

A Group IV/Group V lubricating composition providing improved antioxidation performance comprises from 5 wt. % to 40 wt. % of a Group V base oil component, such as alkylated naphthalene, at least 30 wt. % of a Group IV base oil component, such as one or more polyalphaolefin base stocks, and from 0.25 wt. % to 1.5 wt. % of a trithiophosphate-containing compound. The trithiophosphate-containing compound is preferably CHOPS. The lubricating composition includes not greater than 5 wt. % of a Group I, Group II, or Group III base oil component, and, preferably not greater than 10 ppm heavy metal component. The lubricating composition preferably has a kinematic viscosity of from 20 cSt to 1,000 cSt at 40&#xb0; C. and a viscosity index (VI) of from 130 to 200.

Lubricant formulation with high oxidation performance

Provided are amorphous ethylene propylene copolymer, compositions thereof, and methods for making same, whereby the copolymer can include of from about 40 wt. % to about 60 wt. % ethylene derived units; and of from about 60 wt. % to about 40 wt. % propylene derived units. The copolymer can be characterized by having no discernable melting point as measured by DSC, an MFRR (MI (21.6 kg; 230&#xb0; C.)/MI (2.16 kg; 230&#xb0; C.)) (MI (2.16 kg; 230&#xb0; C.)) of about 38 or more, a molecular weight distribution (MWD) of from about 1.5 to about 2.5, and a shear viscosity &#x3b7;* at 0.01 rad/sec measured at 70&#xb0; C. that satisfies the relation |&#x3b7;*|&#x3e;1.2*10*|MFR|, wherein MFR is the melt flow rate.

Copolymers, compositions thereof, and methods for making them

Provided are ethylene-based copolymers, methods of preparing the same, lubricating oil compositions including the same, methods for preparing such lubricating oil compositions, and end uses for such ethylene-based copolymers and lubricating oil compositions. The ethylene-based copolymers may include less than about 80 wt. % of units derived from ethylene and one or more alpha-olefin comonomers having 3 to 20 carbon atoms. The ethylene-based copolymers have a melting peak (Tm), as measured by DSC, of 80&#xb0; C. or less, and a polydispersity index of about 2.8 or less. In some embodiments, the ethylene-based copolymers have an intramolecular composition distribution of about 50 wt. % or less and/or an intermolecular composition distribution of about 50 wt. % or less.

This disclosure relates to substantially atactic polymers of at least one of propylene, 1-butene or 1-pentene, processes for making such polymers and compositions including the polymers. The polymers may be used as lubricants or may be combined with low viscosity base stocks to form lubricants. The polymers may be made in the presence of a metallocene catalyst with a non-coordinating anion activator and optionally with hydrogen.
