A low temperature molten ionic liquid composition comprising a mixture of a metal halide and an alkyl-containing amine hydrohalide salt can be used in linear alkylbenzene formation. The metal halide is a covalently bonded metal halide which can contain a metal selected from the group comprised of aluminum, gallium, iron, copper, zinc, and indium, and is most preferably aluminum trichloride. The alkyl-containing amine hydrohalide salt may contain up to three alkyl groups, which are preferably lower alkyl, such as methyl and ethyl.

Linear alxylbenzene formation using low temperature ionic liquid

A low temperature molten ionic liquid composition comprising a mixture of a metal halide and an alkyl-containing amine hydrohalide salt is described which is useful as a catalyst and a solvent in alkylation, arylation and polymerization reactions or as an electrolyte for batteries. The addition of an aqueous solution containing one or more cations intended in a metal oxide ceramic product to a base to precipitate a calcinable metal oxide ceramic precursor reduces gelation problems during the precipitation of the precursor.

Process for producing ceramic precursor powders without gel formation

Disclosed is a process for the preparation of double metal oxide ceramic powders which contain at least one metal of Group IIIA, inclusive of aluminum and gallium, and at least one metal of Group IVB, inclusive of titanium and zirconium. The process involves a first step in which an aqueous solution of mixed metal alkoxides or salts is formed and which also contains a chelating agent, preferably a polycarboxylic acid, and a second step in which a base is added in order to cause precipitation of a mixed metal hydroxyl groups-containing precursor that can be calcined or otherwise converted to the final mixed metal oxide. The invention also pertains to novel double metal hydroxyl carboxylates which are useful intermediates in preparing double metal oxides.
