Provided are two-part shimming adhesives comprising a base part and a hardener part that are curable upon mixing. The base part includes a multifunctional epoxy resin having an epoxide functionality of at least three, a difunctional epoxy resin miscibly blended with the multifunctional epoxy resin. The hardener part includes a polyetheramine. Either the base part or hardener part further comprises an inorganic filler present in an amount from 10 percent to 60 percent, relative to the overall weight of the two-part curable shimming adhesive, and a phosphoric acid ester. The shimming adhesive enables joints to be assembled in one step, providing a significant advantage to the user.

Shimming adhesive

Provided is an aqueous primer composition including a first thermosetting resin that is a particulate solid at ambient conditions and a second thermosetting resin that is liquid at ambient conditions and acting as a reactive coalescent agent in which the first thermosetting resin is at least partially soluble. The second thermosetting resin acts as a coalescent agent to enable a continuous primer film to be formed as the primer is being dried before it is cured. The composition further includes a curative that is substantially water-insoluble and reactive with the first and second thermosetting resins. The overall composition can contain up to 4 percent by weight of volatile solvents, other than water and provides a shelf-stable primer that can form a continuous film without the need for added organic solvents.

Aqueous primer compositions and methods thereof

Disclosed is a curable composition and cured products thereof. The curable composition includes a vinyl polysiloxane component, a hydrogen polysiloxane component, a polymerization catalyst, and an expandable graphite component comprising moisture. Cured products of the curable composition include foamed cells having a uniform size and distribution in the cured product. This can help to increase the water proofing and flame retardant properties of the cured product.

Silicone sealer compositions

Provided is a curative part usable in a two-part curable composition. The curative part includes a liquid amine; a heterogeneous dispersant; and core-shell rubber particles having an elastomeric core and a (meth)acrylic shell. The core-shell rubber particles and the heterogeneous dispersant can be collectively shear-dispersed in the liquid amine such that the core-shell rubber particles are substantially non-aggregated and the curative part is phase-stable over a period of at least 3 months at ambient temperature. Advantageously, large amounts of core-shell rubber particles can thus be incorporated into a cured resin matrix, which can afford significantly enhanced impact performance.

Curable composition

Structural adhesive films are presented which comprise branched or networked polymers which are the reaction product of one or more polyether sulfone polymers, which may include amine-terminated polyether sulfone polymers and/or hydroxy-terminated polyether sulfone polymers, with epoxy-functional chemical species including the reaction product of one or more first polyepoxides with an amine-terminated branched polytetrahydrofuran polymer. The structural adhesive films may possess high strength, holding power and durability in high-temperature applications.

High temperature structural adhesive films

Provided are aqueous primer compositions and methods that can be useful for protecting primary structures on an aircraft. The primer composition can contain a thermosetting resin dispersion in water, a coalescent solvent in which the thermosetting resin is at least partially soluble, a first curative that is substantially water-insoluble, and a second curative that is substantially water-soluble. Optionally, the primer composition further contains an epoxy silane, where the primer composition is substantially free of any liquid or water-soluble curatives containing a primary or secondary amine group.

Aqueous primer composition and related methods

Provided is a curable composition containing a reactive mixture of components including an polyethersulfone having a chemical group reactive with an epoxide, a cycloaliphatic polyepoxide resin, a polyepoxide having a functionality greater than two, a liquid diepoxide resin, a first curative containing 9,9-bis(aminophenyl)fluorene or a derivative therefrom and having a curing onset temperature of from 150&#xb0; C. to 200&#xb0; C. The components can further comprise a second curative having a curing onset temperature of from 60&#xb0; C. to 180&#xb0; C. When thermally curing this composition, the second epoxy curative starts to cure before the first epoxy curative, thereby inhibiting vertical flow of the adhesive during the curing process.

Curable compositions and related methods

Provided are curable compositions including a base part comprising an amine-reactive curable resin and a curative part comprising a polymeric toughener dissolved in an amine. The polymeric toughener, optionally a rubbery polymer or thermoplastic polymer, is solid at ambient conditions with a weight average molecular weight of at least 5,000 g/mol while the amine is a liquid at ambient conditions. The curable composition is cured by mixing the base and curative parts with each other. Hardened compositions obtained thereof can achieve increased toughener loading, resulting in high peel and shear strength performance over a wide range of temperatures, including at temperatures exceeding 180&#xb0; F. (82&#xb0; C.).

The present disclosure provides a curable composition. The curable composition includes a liquid epoxy resin component a curative component, and a curable resin filler component. At least a portion of curable resin filler is dispersed in the liquid epoxy resin and solid at about 25&#xb0; C. According to various examples, the curable composition can produce a film having good tackiness and improved handling characteristics. Additionally, according to some examples, a cured product of the curable composition can have a Wet Glass Transition Temperature and a Dry Glass Transition Temperature that are substantially the same.

A sound and heat insulating blanket is presented comprising: a) a first layer of fabric comprising first fibers; and b) a first sound barrier film comprising a first rubber; wherein the first layer of fabric and first sound barrier film are bound together through a first interpenetrated binding layer wherein the first rubber of the first sound barrier film is interpenetrated by the first fibers of the first layer of fabric; and optionally c) a second layer of fabric comprising second fibers; wherein the second layer of fabric and first sound barrier film are bound together through a second interpenetrated binding layer wherein the first cured composition of the first sound barrier film is interpenetrated by the second fibers of the second layer of fabric. Typically, the sound and heat insulating blanket comprises no adhesive binding the first and second layers of fabric and the sound barrier film.

A curable composition is provided comprising a curable rubber comprising: a) 80.0-99.9 wt % of a chloroprene resin; b) 0.06-13 wt % of trimethyl thiourea; and c) 0.06-13 wt % of a benzothiazolesulfenamide, such as N-cyclohexyl-2-benzothiazoles-ulfenamide. The present disclosure additionally provides cured compositions comprising a rubber comprising a crosslinked chloroprene resin and a fire retardant particle system comprising: d) 5-95 wt % particulate magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)); and e) 5-95 wt % particulate aluminum trihydrate (Al(OH)). In some embodiments the particulate aluminum trihydrate (Al(OH)) has a mean particle size of greater than 30 microns and less than 400 microns, and more typically a mean particle size of greater than 82 microns. The present disclosure additionally provides sound barrier films comprising the cured compositions according to the present disclosure, in particular fire resistant sound barrier films.

A two-part adhesive is provided comprising: A) a curative part comprising: i) an epoxy curative; and ii) a reaction intermediate which is the reaction product of a suspension of core/shell rubber nanoparticles in a liquid epoxy resin and an excess of the epoxy curative; wherein the curative part comprises greater than 1.1 wt % core/shell rubber nanoparticles; and B) an epoxy part comprising: iii) a liquid epoxy resin; and iv) greater than 9.1 wt % core/shell rubber nanoparticles. In some embodiments, the epoxy part additionally comprises greater than 5.1 wt % solid epoxy resin, such as, e.g., triglycidyl ether of trisphenol-methane. In some embodiments, the sum of the wt % solid epoxy resin and the wt % core/shell rubber nanoparticles in the epoxy part is greater than 41.0%. In some embodiments, the sum of the wt % solid epoxy resin and the wt % core/shell rubber nanoparticles in the mixed adhesive is greater than 26.0%.

Two-part adhesive including toughened curative

A two-part adhesive is provided comprising: A) a curative part comprising: i) one or more epoxy curatives, where the one or more epoxy curatives include norbornane diamine (NBDA); and ii) a reaction intermediate which is the reaction product of a liquid epoxy resin having an epoxy functionality of 2 with an excess of the epoxy curatives; and B) an epoxy part comprising: iii) one or more multifunctional epoxy resins having an epoxy functionality of greater than 2.2; in some embodiments epoxy functionality of greater than 2.6; in some embodiments epoxy functionality of 3 or greater; and in some embodiments epoxy functionality of 4 or greater. In some embodiments the one or more epoxy curatives additionally include 4,7,10 Trioxa-1,13-tridecane-diamine (TDD). In some embodiments the one or more multifunctional epoxy resins include tetraglycidyl methylenedianiline (TGMDA).

Two-part structural adhesive

(Meth)acrylates are prepared in a single-step method from a mixture of (meth)acrylic acid and at least one biobased oil and/or its derivative(s), including at least one unsaturation. The (meth)acrylates are made by directly adding the (meth)acrylic acid to the biobased oil by reacting in the presence of an acid catalyst, including an inorganic or organic acid having at least one oxygen atom present thereon and which possesses at least one acid functionality having an ionization constant in water which is not greater than 3.
