In one aspect of the disclosure, a method of wireless communication performed by a receiving device includes receiving, from a transmitting device, a plurality of encoded packets each including at least one respective physical (PHY) layer symbol. The method includes decoding the plurality of encoded packets based on a raptor code to generate received data. The method also includes determining a signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) associated with receiving the plurality of encoded packets, receiving an indication from the transmitting device, or determining a channel quality indicator (CQI) or a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) associated with receiving the plurality of encoded packets. The method further includes adaptively determining a PHY packet error rate associated with the plurality of encoded packets based on the SINR, the indication, the CQI, or the MCS. Other aspects and features are also claimed and described.

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, a device may select antenna elements from a planar array to transmit or receive an orbital angular momentum (OAM) beam. The device may determine a first area (e.g., a first ring area) based on an angular direction over which the device can communicate an OAM beam with a second device and may determine a second area (e.g., a second ring area) on the planar array based on projecting the first area on the planar array. The device may select a set of antenna elements from the planar array that are located within the second area. The device may determine a complex-valued weight for each antenna element of the selected set of antenna elements and may transmit or receive an OAM beam to or from the second device via the set of antenna elements according to the angular direction.

Aspects of the disclosure relate to wireless communication utilizing a modulation and coding scheme that selectively or dynamically applies probabilistically-shaped coding (PCS) to modulate a transmitted waveform. The method also includes extracting features from the sensor data, with the local machine learning model, while anonymizing the sensor data. The method further includes transmitting the features to a base station, and receiving a handover decision from the base station based on the features. A method of wireless communication by abase station inputs anonymized sensor feature data, received from a user equipment (UE), into a network machine learning model. The base station also inputs handover decision information into the network machine learning model. The method further includes inferring a handover decision based on the handover decision information and the anonymized sensor feature data, and transmitting the handover decision to the UE.

The method receives a mapping between gradient Sum-Power levels and scaling factors for channel inversion coefficients to process a data block into an unencoded uplink signal. The method also determines a channel inversion coefficient based on a scaling factor obtained from the mapping and the calculated gradient Sum-Power level. The method applies analog modulation and the channel inversion coefficient to the data block to form the unencoded uplink signal. The method further transmits, to a network, the unencoded uplink signal on shared uplink resources for an over-the-air computation of global gradients for the federated learning task.

The UE receives from the network an indication of a maximum rank of an uplink from an interfering, aggressor UE. The UE measures interference of a signal from the aggressor UE, and based on the measurement, determines one or more rank values for the aggressor UE, less than or equal to the maximum rank. The UE may further determine one or more channel parameters for downlink transmissions the UE receives, corresponding to the determined rank values. The UE then transmits a channel state information (CSI) report that includes an indication of at least one of the one or more rank values for the aggressor UE. The CSI report may further include the determined channel parameters. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Generally, the described techniques provide for sending, from an upper layer at a transmitting device to a lower layer at the transmitting device, an indication by which the lower layer determines that a packet is to be transmitted as either an initial transmission or as a retransmission. The lower layer at the transmitting device may then determine a transmission process for transmitting the packet based on the indication, and the transmitting device may transmit the packet in accordance with the transmission process. Because the lower layer may identify whether the packet is to be transmitted as either the initial transmission or the retransmission, the lower layer may adapt the transmission process to improve the chances that the packet is received by a receiving device or to limit overhead.

In a probabilistic amplitude shaping (PAS) system, a distribution matching (DM) component may receive a uniform bit sequence with equal probabilities, which may be converted into symbols with a desired probability distribution (e.g., Gaussian). For example, the probability distribution may use inner constellation points associated with a lower energy and/or power more frequently and outer constellation points associated with a higher energy and/or power less frequently. In general, the DM component may map binary bits to positive amplitudes with a non-uniform distribution according to a DM rate that is based at least in part on a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), which may vary significantly in a spatial and frequency selective wireless channel. Accordingly, some aspects described herein relate to configuring DM parameters and codeword and resource mappings in a spatial and frequency selective wireless channel.
