Methods and systems are provided for a cooler. In one example, a system includes a dual poppet valve assembly arranged in a primary chamber of the cooler. The cooler further includes a plurality of ribs arranged between the dual poppet valve assembly and a plurality of tubes of the cooler. The ribs configured to distribute EGR to the plurality of tubes.

Methods and systems are provided for merging recirculated exhaust gas (EGR) with fresh intake air in an intake passage. In one example, a method may include introducing EGR to the intake passage via an angled annular slot and flowing unmixed EGR and ambient air through an intake compressor inlet. Ambient air may flow to a center of the intake compressor while the EGR may flow along a periphery of the intake compressor inlet.

Methods and systems for merging EGR with intake air

An exhaust gas recirculation system for an engine includes a conduit, and a U-shaped exhaust gas mixer. The conduit is configured to direct an exhaust gas away from an exhaust manifold. The U-shaped exhaust gas mixer is configured to direct exhaust gas from the conduit and into an engine air intake system. The U-shaped exhaust gas mixer is arranged with a pre-mixing cavity configured to disperse the exhaust gas and entraining the exhaust gas into an intake air flow prior to distribution into an intake manifold of an engine.

An engine system includes an engine having an intake manifold, a turbocharger having a compressor, and an exhaust gas recovery (EGR) mixer coupled between the compressor and the intake manifold. The EGR mixer includes a central air duct having a central axis, an annular ring circumscribing the central duct and having an inlet connectable to an EGR system and an outlet in fluid communication with the central air duct, and a vane assembly disposed in the central air duct upstream of the annular ring and having a plurality of vanes configured to swirl air passing therethrough.

An exhaust gas recirculation system for an engine includes a first conduit, a second conduit, and a mixer. The first conduit is configured to direct a first portion of exhaust gas away from a first exhaust manifold. The second conduit is configured to direct a second portion of exhaust gas away from a second exhaust manifold. The mixer is configured to direct the first and second portions of the exhaust gas from the first and second conduits, respectively, into an engine air intake system. The mixer is arranged to segregate the first and second portions of the exhaust gas while the first and second portions of the exhaust gas are within the mixer. The mixer forms a ring about a perforated tube. The mixer is configured to direct the first and second portions of the exhaust gas into the air intake system via the perforated tube.

Exhaust gas recirculation system for a vehicle engine

Methods and systems are provided for preventing compressor surge while improving compressor efficiency and performance. In one example, a method may include a recirculation passage in a compressor configured with a casing treatment and the recirculation passage being cooled by a cooling jacket within the compressor housing wall. In another example, the recirculation passage includes guide vanes.

Water-cooled casing treatment

Methods and systems are provided for a compressor adapted with a movable sleeve and an active casing treatment that form separate air flow chambers. In one example, a method includes flowing intake air in a first direction through a casing to an impeller of a compressor, selectively flowing intake air from the casing through a first chamber in an opposite, second direction, the first chamber circumferentially surrounding the casing, and selectively flowing intake air in the first direction through a second chamber to the impeller, the second chamber circumferentially surrounding the first chamber. In this way, compressor surge may be mitigated without reducing compressor efficiency at higher air flow rates.

Active casing treatment adapted with movable sleeve

Methods and systems are provided for a noise mitigating device for a turbocharger compressor. In one example, the noise mitigating device includes a set of perforated rings arranged in a recirculation passage of a compressor casing treatment. The rings of the set of perforated rings may be oriented so that apertures of one ring are offset from apertures of one or more adjacent rings, forcing air to flow through the apertures via a non-linear path while deflecting at least a portion of sounds waves generated in the compressor.

Methods and systems are provided for coordinated operation of electric variable geometry turbocharger (e-VGT), an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), and electric motor coupled to the e-VGT for expedited catalyst light-off. In one example, a method may include, during a cold-start, decreasing each of an opening of e-VGT vanes and an opening of an EGR valve while operating the electric motor for braking and reducing the e-VGT speed.

In one example, a method may include operating a turbocharger by an electric motor during engine braking to increase air flow to an engine intake. The enhanced air flow into the engine intake increases an exhaust manifold pressure, thus increased a braking force provided by engine braking.

Methods and systems are provided for a compressor having a variable inlet device and an active casing treatment. In one arrangement, a system for a compressor may include a casing forming a recirculation passage surrounding an inlet passage, an active casing treatment surrounding the inlet passage and configured to selectively control gas flow through the recirculation passage, an impeller, and a variable inlet device positioned in the inlet passage upstream of the impeller and configured to selectively reduce an effective size of the impeller. The variable inlet device and the active casing treatment may be adjusted based on operating conditions in order to increase a flow range of the compressor while providing high compressor efficiency.
