In one embodiment, an X-ray tube includes an electron beam source including a primary cathode configured to emit an electron beam and an anode assembly including an anode configured to receive the electron beam and to emit X-rays when impacted by the electron beam. The X-ray tube also includes an enclosure, at least the primary cathode and the anode being disposed in the enclosure, and a secondary cathode disposed in the enclosure and configured to emit electrons to impact the anode for degassing the enclosure.

An HV connector for high power X-ray device consists of thermally conductive epoxy, cable terminal, faraday cup, spring-loaded contact, and lead lined housing. The thermally conductive epoxy includes fillers. The epoxy can also be loaded with gravels of similar materials. A Faraday cup is included in the center area to offer electric field relief. Spring-loaded contacts are included for the easiness of pin alignment and robustness of handling. An efficient thermal management solution is accomplished through proper selection of thermal conductivities of gasket and epoxy.

Thermally high conductive HV connector for a mono-polar CT tube

An HV insulator system for a mono-polar X-ray device includes a top of an insulator including a substantially cone-shaped central portion. A bottom of the insulator defines a flat surface on which the HV contacts are adapted to receive spring loaded pins from HV connectors. A flanged outer edge of the top and bottom is adapted for coupling to an HV connector. The top defines an inverse cone central channel coaxial with the cone-shaped central portion and adapted to receive the HV conductor. The substantially cone-shaped portion further defines the inverse cone channel such that a base of the inverse cone channel is defined at a tapered apex of the substantially cone-shaped central portion.

HV system for a mono-polar CT tube

Apparatus for connecting an HV cable to the cathode of an X-ray tube is provided with a housing disposed for attachment to the X-ray tube, and a quantity of epoxy or other electric insulating material contained within the housing. The epoxy serves to insulate the exposed end portions of the HV cable conductors, which extend beyond the cable insulation for insertion into the X-ray tube casing. The connector apparatus further includes a heat transfer device, such as a heat pipe, which extends long the cable within the connector housing. A quantity of working fluid contained in the heat transfer device is disposed for bi-directional movement along the device to transfer heat from a first location within the insulating material to a second location proximate to the housing.
