A coated glass substrate is disclosed as well as a method of making the coated glass substrate. The coated glass substrate comprises a glass substrate and a coating on a surface of the glass substrate wherein the coating includes a binder. The binder may include an interpenetrating network. For example, the network may include a crosslinked polyacrylate and a crosslinked polyacrylamide. In addition, the transparency of the coated substrate after one of the following conditions may be within 10% of the transparency of the coated substrate prior to the condition: (i) wherein the coated substrate is stored at a temperature of 0&#xb0; C. or less and then exposed to an environment at 21&#xb0; C. and 70% humidity or (ii) wherein the coated substrate is positioned within 100&#xb0; C. steam for one minute.

A coated glass substrate and a method of making the glass substrate is disclosed. The method comprises the following: providing a coating formulation on a glass substrate wherein the coating formulation comprises at least one polymerizable compound, a glass frit, and a non-crosslinked polymer and heating the coating formulation on the glass substrate. The coated glass substrate includes a coating provided on a surface of a glass substrate wherein the coating comprises a semi-interpenetrating polymer network including a non-crosslinked polymer and a glass frit. The coating exhibits a stud pull of about 275 psi or more.

A glass article includes a glass substrate and a coating disposed on the glass substrate. The coating includes a glass frit material and a binder material. The binder material includes a first polymer that has cross-linked first polymer chains and a second polymer that has second polymer chains that are linear, branched, or cross-linked. The cross-linked first polymer chains and the second polymer chains form an interpenetrating network in which the second polymer chains are intertwined on a molecular scale with the cross-linked first polymer chains.

A glass article comprising a glass substrate and a coating on a surface of the glass substrate is disclosed. The coating comprises a glass frit and a binder comprising an interpenetrating polymer network. The interpenetrating polymer network comprises a crosslinked polyol resin, a second crosslinked resin, and a third resin. A method of forming the glass article containing the coating is also disclosed.

An improved anti-reflection glass with higher transmittance (&#x394;Tqe %) results from a coating of or including tin oxide (e.g., SnO) nanoparticles (e.g., 10-20 nm in size) applied to a surface of solar float or matte/matte glass. The tin oxide based coating layer shows improved chemical stability and durability and can be prepared using a sol-gel process and applied by spin coating. Matte/matte anti-reflection glass samples may have two coating layers (e.g., SnOnanoparticles on the rough side and SiOnanoparticles on the smooth side) and exhibit an improved transmittance (e.g., visible transmittance) of at least 2.0%, e.g., about 3.5%. As high as a 30% increase of &#x394;Tqe % has been observed when anti-reflection matte/matte glass coated with SnOis exposed in a salt fog chamber for 5 days. The increase in transmittance may be due to the different pore structure of the SnOcoating layer, while the increase of Tqe % in a salt fog chamber may be due to the crystalline SnOformation.

Certain example embodiments relate to a coated article including a coating formed from a sol that has hydrophobic surface properties. The sol may include a mixture of at least two alkylsiloxane chemicals, with the sol potentially being aged for a certain comparatively short amount of time before being wet-applied to a major substrate surface. The application process may also undergo a certain comparatively short curing process to help provide hydrophobic surface properties. The hydrophobic surface properties help provide anti-soiling functions that are advantageous in a variety of applications including, for example, solar mirror applications.

Anti-reflection (AR) coating for a glass substrate is prepared by blending at least two different sols to form a coating sol which is used to coat a substrate such as a transparent glass substrate. In certain example embodiments, a method includes forming a first sol formulation including a colloidal solution having a tri-alkoxysilane based binder; forming a second sol formulation including a colloidal solution having a tetra-alkoxysilane based binder; blending the first and second sol formulations to form a coating sol formulation; coating at least a portion of said coating sol formulation onto the glass substrate to form a coating; and heating (e.g., for curing and/or annealing) the glass substrate and the coating thereon. Anti-reflection glasses show improved mechanical strength and higher transmittances (e.g., Tqe % gain).

Certain example embodiments relate to methods of making anti-corrosion anti-reflection (ACAR) films, and/or associated coated articles. The methods may involve forming the reaction product of a hydrolysis and/or a condensation reaction of at least one hybrid alkoxide selected from the group consisting of Si(OR)&#x2014;Al(s-OBu), Si(OR)&#x2014;B(OBu)and Si(OR)and Zr(OBu), where R is a CHCHgroup, s-OBu is sec-butoxide and OBu is n-butoxide. The solution optionally may be blended and/or mixed with silicon nanoparticles and/or siloxanes. A Tqe % gain of about 3.2% and/or refractive index of 1.5 or less is/are possible in certain example embodiments.

Anti-corrosion anti-reflection glass and related methods

Embodiments provided herein describe antireflective coatings and methods for forming antireflective coatings. A substrate is provided. A first antireflective layer is formed over the substrate. The first antireflective layer has a first refractive index. A second antireflective layer is formed on the first antireflective layer. The second antireflective layer has a second refractive index. The first antireflective layer and the second antireflective layer jointly form an antireflective coating. The antireflective coating is graded such that the antireflective coating comprises at least three sub-layers, each of the at least three sub-layers having a unique refractive index.

Antireflective coatings with gradation and methods for forming the same

Methods and compositions for forming porous low refractive index coatings on substrates are provided. The method comprises coating a substrate with a sol-formulation comprising silica based nanoparticles and an alkyltrialkoxysilane based binder. Use of the alkyltrialkoxysilane based binder results in a porous low refractive index coating having bimodal pore distribution including mesopores formed from particle packing and micropores formed from the burning off of organics including the alkyl chain covalently bonded to the silicon. The mass ratio of binder to particles may vary from 0.1 to 20. Porous coatings formed according to the embodiments described herein demonstrate good optical properties (e.g. a low refractive index) while maintaining good mechanical durability due to the presence of a high amount of binder and a close pore structure.
