Described is a method of synchronizing a TSN NW-TT module inside a UPF with a Grandmaster (GM) in a Time Domain of the communication network. The method comprises receiving one or more PTP or gPTP messages on an N3 interface of the UPF. The method includes determining a first time offset value between the GM and the UPF N3 interface based on information received in the PTP or gPTP messages. A timing of the UPF N3 interface is adjusted using the determined first time offset value to synchronize the time between the UPF N3 interface and the GM. The method includes determining a second time offset value between the UPF N3 interface and the NW-TT module. A timing of the NW-TT module is adjusted using the determined second time offset value to synchronize the time between the NW-TT module and the GM.

Method of high precision time synchronization with a communication network grandmaster for user plane function

Described is a method of setting up a direct connection between edge sites on a 5G communications network. The method comprises: configuring 5G network functions (NFs) in the 5G communications network; configuring 5G NFs at the edge sites, if not already configured; and based on said configured NFs, setting up a direct tunnel between the edge sites according to a pre-defined tunnel policy.

Method of setting up connections between edge sites in a 5G communications network

Described is a method of processing data packets in a communications network. The method comprises receiving a first data packet of a data packet flow from a network device and determining an instruction set for processing said first data packet. A flow key for said first data packet is determined. The first data packet is processed according to the determined instruction set. The method includes receiving a subsequent data packet and determining if a flow key of said subsequent data packet matches said flow key of said first data packet. If yes, the subsequent data packet is processed using the instruction set determined for said first data packet.

Method to accelerate packet detection rule (PDR) matching and data packet processing in a user plane function (UPF) module in a communications network

A method and apparatus for transporting packets over a wide area network (WAN) in a communications network are provided where the WAN comprises a plurality of interconnected nodes including at least a first communication node, a second communication node and a WAN controller node. The method comprises establishing virtual private network (VPN) tunnel connections on communication links between some or all of the communication nodes comprising the WAN, using a non-stream-oriented transport layer protocol to establish a non-stream-oriented association for each VPN tunnel connection, and, on receiving a packet connection from a source device at said first communication node, encapsulating packets from said packet connection into one or more non-stream-oriented associations between the first communication node and the second communication node to thereby transport said packets from the source device to the second communication node. The WAN controller node communicates to the first communication node a selection of links or routes for packet transport to the second communication node. The first communication node selects the one or more non-stream-oriented associations for encapsulating packets into from a plurality of non-stream-oriented associations established on the links or routes communicated to said first node by the WAN controller node.
