Aspects relate to authorizing mobile devices for PBX-based voice services. A mobile device calls a PBX over a voice channel, and phone number identifier information is obtained and matched to identifier information for devices that known (authorizeable) to use the PBX. If there is one incoming call that matches to a given device, and an authentication token provided over a data channel matches an authentication token associated with that device, then the device is authorized for voice services. Where there are multiple matching calls, those devices are instructed to provide authentication tokens over their voice channels. The devices can detect absence of a data channel and provide authentication tokens over the voice channels; the devices also can wait to receive a call connected response and in the absence of such provide their authentication tokens over the voice channel. Tokens can be requested and downloaded for storage at the devices.

Determining whether a call forward busy service is enabled on a telephone line includes placing a first test call across a network to the telephone line. First signaling data is received through the network in response to the first test call. The first signaling data is evaluated to determine whether the first test call is inspiring a ringing condition. A second test call is placed across the network conditioned on whether the first signaling data indicates that the first test call is determined to be inspiring a ringing condition. The second test call is placed while the first test call remains inspiring ringing. Second signaling data is received through the network in response to the second test call. A call forward busy service is concluded to be enabled on the telephone line based on whether the second test call is determined to be inspiring a ringing condition.

Alerting an intended recipient of a phone call includes identifying an account based on a phone call received from a caller and accessing configuration data related to the account. Several identities associated with the account are identified based on the configuration data accessed. A first identity is determined from among the several identities based on the configuration data accessed. The availability of the first identity to receive a first electronic communication associated with the phone call is determined. The first electronic communication associated with the phone call is sent to the first identity conditioned on whether the first identity is determined to be available to receive the first electronic communication.

A method to determine telephone services enabled on a telephone line that is registered to receive services from an online service provider includes determining whether a telephone line registered to receive services from an online service provider is occupied. One or more test calls are placed across a network to the telephone line conditioned upon whether the telephone line is determined to be occupied. Signalling data is received through the network in response to the test calls. One or more telephone services believed to be enabled on the telephone line are determined based on at least the signaling data.
