A multimodal, contactless vital sign monitoring system is configured to perform the following operations. Images are received from a video capture device. An image of a subject is identified within the images. The image of the subject is segmented into a plurality of segments. A first analysis is performed on the plurality of segments to identify a color feature. A second analysis is performed of the plurality of segments to identify a motion feature. Using a combination of the color feature and the motion feature a plurality of vital signs for the subject are determined. The first analyzing and the second analyzing are performed in parallel. The plurality of vital signs include one or more of heart rate, respiration rate, oxygen saturation, heart rate variability, and atrial fibrillation.

Multimodal contactless vital sign monitoring

A method includes estimating, by a consumer electronic device, an atrial fibrillation (AF) burden of a subject based on multiple measurements passively collected by at least one sensor associated with the consumer electronic device while the subject is in a free-living environment. The method also includes outputting, by the consumer electronic device, an AF burden notification associated with the subject based on the estimated AF burden. The method further includes outputting, by the consumer electronic device, an AF burden recommendation based on the estimated AF burden.

Systems and methods for atrial fibrillation burden estimation, notification and management in daily free-living scenarios

Continuously monitoring heart rhythm can include grouping, using computer hardware, a plurality of inter-beat intervals (IBI) data for a user into a plurality of epochs, wherein each epoch includes a subset of the IBI data corresponding to a predetermined time span. For each epoch, a selected feature set selected from a plurality of feature sets is extracted based on a determination of temporal consistency of the epoch. A plurality of epoch classifications may be generated for the epochs using a selected feature processor, wherein each epoch classification indicates whether arrhythmia is detected for the epoch from which the epoch classification is generated. The selected feature processor is selected from a plurality of different feature processors on a per-epoch basis based on the selected feature set extracted from the epoch. An indication of arrhythmia may be output, via an output device of the computer hardware, based on the epoch classifications.

Non-invasive continuous heart rhythm monitoring based on wearable sensors

An optical sensing platform with an array of sensors, a laser or broadband light source and an optical detector that utilizes surface plasmon resonance based transduction and optical detection is provided. The sensor structure of the platform has a low index support layer, a high contrast grating, a low index spacer and a thin metal film with a target recognition element. The surface plasmon resonance based sensor uses surface plasmon waves to detect changes on the surface of the sensor when a target interacts with the target recognition element. The binding of the target with a recognition element receptor will induce changes in the refractive index of the metal layer, which changes the resonance wavelength of the plasmon wave on the sensor surface, which is used to measure or observe the reaction.

Optical sensor using high contrast gratings coupled with surface plasmon polariton

A color changing or beam steering photonic device, which combines a high contrast metastructure (HCM) having a plurality of high index grating structures, into a low index membrane. In response to physical (or electrical) deformation of the membrane the low index gaps between adjacent grating bars changes which results in changing reflectance and transmission angles for steering a single wavelength of light and for causing a color change in said photonic device when subject to multiple light wavelengths. Deformation can result from direct physical stimulus, conversion from electrical or thermal to physical, and so forth. Refractive index change can also be initiated by carrier injection through electrodes. The apparatus is exemplified for use in color displays, beam steering, labeling micro entities, mechanical deformation sensing, camouflage, anti-counterfeiting, and other fields.

Actively controllable color using high contrast metastructures

A HGA of the invention includes a slider; a micro-actuator to adjust the position of the slider; and a suspension to load the slider and the micro-actuator. The micro-actuator includes two side arms; a load plate for supporting the slider, which is connected with at least one of the side arms; a piezoelectric element connected with the side arms; and a base shaft to couple with the suspension, which is connected with the side arms and positioned between the load plate and the piezoelectric element. The invention also discloses a disk drive unit using such a HGA.
