System and method for monitoring objects of interest including persons in an indoor or outdoor scene with high accuracy, strong privacy protection, high security, low volume data transmission and storage. The system includes: an embedded sensing device with multiple sensors and microprocessor(s) with built-in artificial intelligence as an end unit with parametric outputs, a controller that aggregate parametric outputs from multiple end units with local intelligence and configurable control outputs, and an optional gateway that aggregates multiple controllers output and connect with the network, cloud and/or human interface. The embedded sensing devices can capture data of the scene through multiple sensors with different functions and technologies; detect and track the objects of interest including persons; analyze features of the objects of interest; detect event and behavior associated with the detected objects or persons of interest based on the features and/or events; and only provide these parametric outputs to controller.

Multi-channel sensing system with embedded processing

Disclosed are devices, methods, and techniques for providing photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) for plants, i.e. lighting. Devices including light emitting diodes (LEDs) are disclosed than can be used as lighting for plants grown indoors or outdoors. The disclosed LEDs significantly reduce power consumption for horticulture lighting, provide the wavelengths needed by plants to optimize growth, and provide growers with the ability to control PAR in order to optimize grow strategies. The disclosed LEDs provide the correct wavelengths of light (300-800 nanometers (nm)) for photosynthesis with a uniform intensity across the LED device thereby providing an even photon delivery to plant canopy and into the underlying leaves within the plant canopy. The intensity and mixture of wavelengths provided by the LED device can be controlled by adjusting the electrical power delivered to individual LEDs included in the LED device.

Tunable LED light array for horticulture

A multicolor illumination device using an excitation light source and a multi-segmented moving plate with wavelength conversion materials (e.g. phosphors) is disclosed. The exciting light source is a light emitting diode or a laser diode emitting in the UV and/or blue region. The wavelength conversion materials absorb the excitation light and emit longer wavelength light. Each segment of the moving plate contains a different wavelength conversion material or no wavelength conversion material. The plate is supported to move so that different segments are exposed to the excitation light at different times. The plate may be a wheel or rectangular in shape and rotates or oscillates linearly. When the plate moves, light of different colors is generated sequentially in time by the different wavelength conversion materials in different segments of the plate. The multicolor illumination device may be used in a projector system having a microdisplay imager for image display.

Lighting systems, devices and techniques are provided to construct solid-state lighting devices and systems that provide energy-efficient illumination, including personal lighting devices, desktop lighting devices, and ceiling/overhead lighting devices based on semiconductor-based solid-state light sources such as LEDs or laser diodes. The disclosed solid-state lighting devices and systems use an illumination plate to receive the generated light from one or more LEDs or laser diodes and to process the received light to exhibit desired spatial distribution of light power across the illumination plate and desired direction of the output light from the illumination plate.

LED-based personal and other lighting devices and systems

Techniques, devices and materials for light source devices that convert excitation light into different light via wavelength conversion materials. One example of a light source includes an excitation light source; a wavelength conversion material that absorbs light from the excitation light source and emits a longer wavelength light; and a layer of a transparent material that has plural optical structures in contact to or in close proximity to the wavelength conversion material to receive the emitted light from the wavelength conversion material and to modify the received light to produce output light with a desired spatial pattern associated with the plural optical structures.

High brightness illumination devices using wavelength conversion materials

Methods, systems, and devices are disclosed for light-emitting diode and laser diode packaging designs. In one aspect, an LED lighting device includes a substrate capable of dissipating heat, the substrate formed of a metal or ceramic material, an array of LED dies located on the substrate, electrically conductive lines on the substrate and electrically connected to the LED dies for electrically driving the LED dies to emit light, a grid structure over the substrate forming an array of cavities to surround the LED dies in respective cavities, an optically reflective coating at least partially covering one or more of exposed regions of the substrate, the electrically conductive lines, or surfaces of the grid structure, and optically transparent plates placed over at least some of the cavities of the grid structure allowing transmission of light produced by a respective LED die inside a respective cavity.

Optically efficient solid-state lighting device packaging

Techniques for constructing a solid-state lighting module that includes solid-state light emitters that emit light of different colors and are selected from separated groups of solid-state light emitters that emit light of two or more separated colors, wherein one or more solid-state light emitters are selected from each of the separated color groups of solid-state light emitters. The lighting module includes a programmable device that stores or remembers desirable optical intensities of the separated color groups of solid-state light emitters, and a control circuit that individually controls light intensity of each of the separated color groups of solid-state light emitters. The light control circuit is coupled to or in communication with the programmable device to receive the desirable optical intensities of the separated groups of solid-state light emitters and is operable to adjust the intensities of the separated color groups of solid-state light emitters based on the desirable intensities.

LED packages and their fabrication techniques are disclosed to provide LED package with improved thermal dissipation based on one or more thermally conductive channels or studs. In one implementation, a LED package includes a plastic body structured to have a hole that penetrates through the plastic body; a metal contact formed on the plastic body at one side of the hole to cover the hole; a LED mounted to the metal contact at a location that spatially overlaps with the hole; and a stud formed in the hole in contact with the metal contact at a first end of the stud and extending to an opening of the hole at a second end of the stud, the stud being formed of a thermally conductive material to transfer heat from the LED through the metal contact and the stud to dissipate the heat at the opening of the hole via the second end of the stud.

LED package and method of making the same

A light source with enhanced brightness includes an angle-selective optical filter and a light emitting diode (LED) having a high reflective layer. The angle-selective filter is located on the top surface of emitting diode to pass lights at specified angles. According to one embodiment, the angle-selective filter includes index-alternating layers. With a reflective polarizer, the light source can produce polarized light with enhanced brightness.

Brightness enhancement method and apparatus of light emitting diodes

A wavelength division multiplexer and etendue conserved optics are used to combine multiple wavelength LED lights into a combined light. The combined light, with higher intensity and higher power than the light from an individual LED, is used to excite a wavelength conversion material such as phosphors to generate a high brightness and high power light. Light generated by multiple LEDs of the same wavelength may be coupled into a optical fiber bundle before inputting it into the wavelength-division multiplexer, further increasing the brightness and power. The wavelength conversion material may generate light of three different color under excitation by different LED lights, or a white light with higher brightness and higher power. Such a light source can be used in image display devices such as a projector or in illumination systems.

High brightness light source using light emitting devices of different wavelengths and wavelength conversion

An LED based illumination system with enhanced brightness is described. The system includes one or more light sources such as LEDs, one or more light couplers for efficiently collecting and collimating the light from the light sources, one or more wavelength selective filters, one or more light concentrators that focus the collimated light, and a cavity made of a layer of wavelength converting material such as a phosphorescent material located at the focus planes of the light concentrators. Each light coupler includes a light tunnel portion and a compound parabolic reflecting portion, and effectively collects and collimates light emitted by the LED in all directions. The wavelength selective filters pass the collimated light from the light sources and reflect light of a second wavelength generated by the phosphorescent material. The lights of both wavelengths exit the light cycling cavity through an aperture.

Brightness enhancement with directional wavelength conversion

A light source is described where the light emitted by a solid-state light emitting device such as an LED is coupled into an optical waveguide such as an optical fiber. A highly reflective coupler (reflector) is disposed around the LED and a segment of the waveguide adjacent the LED. Light emitted from the LED that falls outside of the numerical aperture of the waveguide leaks out of the waveguide, but is reflected back to the waveguide by the reflector. The reflected light is re-reflected or scattered by the LED or the substrate the LED is mounted on, and the re-reflected or scattered light that falls within the numerical aperture of the waveguide is coupled into the waveguide. As a result, light coupling efficiency is increased and the output brightness of the light at the other end of the fiber is enhanced.
