A portable information handling system manages power consumption by selectively powering down an integrated display when the housing rotational orientation indicates that visual images have less end user utility, such as between 15 and 80 degrees of open rotation. When the information handling system has a peripheral display interfaced, the central processing unit and graphical processing unit continue to operate to present information as visual images at the peripheral display while the integrated display powers down to reduce power consumption.

Managing power-on at an information handling system, including detecting a presence of a finger of a user of the information handling system within a threshold distance of a detection element of the information handling system; in response to detecting the presence of the finger of the user of the information handling system within the threshold distance of the detection element of the information handling system: enabling an embedded controller of the information handling system; after enabling the embedded controller, executing, by the embedded controller, a firmware load code at the information handling system; after executing the firmware load code at the information handling system, receiving user input indicating depression of a mechanical power button of the information handling system; and in response to the user input and based on execution of the firmware load code, powering-on the information handling system.

Managing power-on at an information handling system

An information handling system can comprise first and second housings having pivotally coupled rear edge portions such that the housings are pivotable between open and closed states. A hinge cover can extend along at least a portion of each housing's rear edge portion. A flexible printed circuit having opposing upper and lower surfaces can extend between the housings. The circuit can include a cover segment in which the circuit's upper surface is fixed to the hinge cover's inner surface, two housing segments that are each fixed to a respective one of the housings, and two free segment that each connect a respective one of the housings segments to the cover segment, are movable relative to the hinge cover and to the housings when the housings pivot between the open and closed states, and underlie the inner surface of the hinge cover when the housings are in the open state.
