A method of iteratively adjusting a color of light emitted by a light source includes setting a weighted target color to an initial color of a light emitted by a light source. The method further includes determining a target color of the light by a color controller to iteratively adjust a color of the light to the target color of the light. The method also includes determining an updated weighted target color as a combination of a portion of the weighted target color and a portion of the target color. The method further includes adjusting the color of the light by the color controller to the weighted target color.

Controlled color transition

A method of increasing modulation of a visible light signal. The method can include receiving a signal that corresponds to the visible light signal, where the visible light signal has a magnitude. The method can also include adjusting, by a controller and based on the signal, a dimmer level of a dimmer by an amount, where the amount is proportional to the magnitude of the visible light signal, and where the dimmer level adjusts an output of a driver circuit. The visible light signal and the output of the driver circuit can be combined into a power signal and sent to one or more light sources. The one or more light sources can use the power signal to generate a light output that includes a visible light communication signal that is received by a receiver.

Visible light communication with increased signal-to-noise ratio

A lighting device includes a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs) configured to emit a light. The lighting device further includes a color controller configured to repeatedly assert and deactivate a control signal to control whether one or more LEDs of the plurality of LEDs are turned on or turned off. The color controller asserts the control signal for a first time period and deactivates the control signal for a second time period, where a color of the light emitted by the plurality of LEDs depends on the first time period and the second time period. The color controller changes the color of the light emitted by the plurality of LEDs by changing one or both of the first time period and the second time period.

Lighting color control

A retrofit-style lamp is disclosed. The retrofit-style lamp includes a plurality of light sources, and a one-dimensional linear batwing lens. The one-dimensional linear batwing lens beam shapes light emitted by at least two light sources of the plurality of light sources. The retrofit-style lamp also includes a housing including the plurality of light sources, and attached to the one-dimensional linear batwing lens. The combination of housing and lens is then itself fitted with endcaps, including electrical connectors, for placement within a fixture, such as within an existing conventional fluorescent tube fixture located within a storage structure, for example a refrigeration case. Alternatively, the plurality of light sources, the one-dimensional linear batwing lens, and the housing may be formed, along with a power supply, as a standalone retrofit fixture for use in enclosed storage structures, such as refrigeration cases, where the retrofit fixture replaces a conventional fluorescent fixture.

An alternating current ('AC')-powered light emitting diode ('LED') driver is described herein for driving one or more arrays of series-connected LEDs. The LED driver includes a first transistor that includes a collector-emitter path connected in series with at least one LED of an array of series-connected LEDs. The LED driver also includes a second transistor configured to selectively activate the first transistor based on a level of current through the array of series-connected LEDs. The array of series-connected LEDs has a turn-on voltage.

Controlling current flowing through LEDs in a LED light fixture

A dimming circuit for a light-emitting diode fixture includes a dimming switch, a signal transfer device, and a timer. The dimming switch can include a dimming switch and generate a current at a first voltage level, where the current corresponds to a dimmer setting of the dimmer switch. The signal transfer device can include an input communicably coupled to an output, where the input of the signal transfer device is electrically coupled to the dimming switch, and where the output of the signal transfer device generates a signal at a second voltage level based on the current received by the input. The timer can be electrically coupled to the output of the signal transfer device and to a LED driver, where the timer generates a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal based on the signal, and where the timer sends the PWM signal to the LED driver.

Dimming for light-emitting diode circuits

A method for controlling a buck converter of an alternating current (AC)-powered light emitting diode (LED) circuit. The method includes receiving an input voltage, and converting the input voltage to a feedback voltage. The method can also include sending the feedback voltage to the buck converter. The feedback voltage is proportional to the input voltage by a first factor when the input voltage is less than an upper threshold voltage and greater than a lower threshold voltage. The feedback voltage is proportional to the input voltage by a second factor when the input voltage is at least as great as the upper threshold voltage. The upper threshold voltage is less than a maximum voltage of the input voltage.

Controlling current flowing through LEDs in a LED lighting fixture

A photocontroller operates one or more lamps, such as a GU24 compact fluorescent lamp, based on ambient light to provide dusk-to-dawn operation. The photocontroller includes a photosensor for detecting the level of ambient light. The photosensor provides a signal to a photocontrol circuit that controls a switching device to selectively provide power to the lamp based on the level of ambient light detected by the photosensor. A fault detection circuit monitors the level of ambient light and the status of the lamp to determine whether the photocontroller is operating properly. The fault detection circuit determines the status of the lamp based on current flow to the lamp as determined by a current sensor. In addition, the photocontroller can include a processor for performing certain photocontrol and fault monitoring functions.

Lighting system having photocontrol and fault monitoring capabilities

A lighting control system determines an optimal way to operate one or more lamps to achieve a desired light output and/or to control one or more parameters. The lighting control system includes a detection circuit and a control circuit. The control circuit performs a wide-scope scan and a narrow-scope scan to find the best way to operate the lamps. The wide-scope scan includes driving the lamp(s) using multiple output settings, evaluating the light output at each setting, and determining which setting produced the best results. The narrow-scope scan includes making small adjustments to the settings to better refine the light output. The detection circuit includes one or more sensors for providing measurements of the light output by the lamp(s) or of a controller parameter, such as power consumption, for each setting evaluated by the control circuit.
